I discovered part of the reason for some of those terribly low proc rates, which is that offensive clickies suffer from a reduced crit rate. The clicky I was using is Instrument of Disempowerment. Unfortunately, after carefully comparing and parsing various spell types, there is still a clear problem with my crit rate. In no circumstances am I getting close to what should be my *average* crit rate.
These are all in rust. I'm wondering if my suspicious of zone variability were wrong (They never made sense to me, its just what the numbers seemed to report, but maybe that was just I was using clickies a lot more in certain zones).
Parse with normal mana costing nukes, bracer procs, and offensive clickies (more clicky nukes than anything else):
149 casts
8 crits
7.2% crit chance after being adjusted for ults
Parse with normal mana nukes and proccing bracers in:
75 casts
12 crits
21.3% crit chance after being adjusted for ults
Parse only using level 65 mana nuke (Flash Flame), proccing bracers and BP removed:
85 casts
11 crits
17.2% crit chance after being adjusted for ults
These are not the most extensive parses ever, but they confirm previous results, and are long enough to imply something is definitely wrong.
Looking at these, and some previous raid parses, it seems that offensive clicky nukes suffer from a greatly reduced crit rate. This is news for me and worth notice, but not the focus of this thread, since in normal play these are less than 1% of my spells. Bracer procs *do* seem to benefit from crit rate to the same degree as mana costing nukes.
Something is definitely still wrong with Solosolki (and I would assume other wizard, if not all caster/weapon proc crit rates).
Some things that could potentially skew parses or crits that I have taken into account:
(1)If Ultimate Blasts were vastly more common than I assumed/calculated, they would skew the numbers, however I carefully visually watched all of my numbers during this parse session, and Ultimates were definitely only ~25% of critical nukes, as predicted. These could potentially skew the numbers one way or the other, but the fact that I don't have a single parse at near or above my crit rate, indicates that the base rate is off, regardless of Ultimates shifting numbers a bit.
(2)The problems with the client reporting crits, and this gamparse missing them were carefully avoided. I was within meele range, or barely outside it for all of these parses. Additionally, I was watching my combat log the entire time incase a nuke number was reported as twice its value, indicating a crit, without the crit message, but this never happened during this parsing session.
(3)I cast snare/root occasionally, but I looked at the log/parse carefully to be sure these spells were not counted as non criticals, skewing the results. On a number of fights I actually manually counted the crits, and total nukes, and in each case, Gamparse was reporting the correct numbers.
(4)Rains or PBAE nukes have a reduced critical chance, and would skew parse numbers, but for the entirety of this parsing session I only used single target nukes, which should recieve my full critical spell chance from everything I understand and game experience over the last ~5 years.
Here are a couple of raid/other parses, where I know I was within range for crit reports at least 90%+ of the fight:
Kaltan Boss: 22.3% adjusted crit rate
Monstrosity: 20.3% adjusted crit rate
Monstrosity: 17.8% adjusted crit rate
NylastraZara: 27% adjusted crit rate (best parse I have seen, but this was a very short attempt where we died)
NylastraZara: 12.7% adjusted crit rate (the longer attempt where we won)
The Custodian: 22.3% adjusted crit rate
It definitely appears that something is still wrong. These numbers are better than I was thinking before (since realizing that clickies crit far less often). My real crit rate seems to be about 20-22%. I really wish I had all my old parse data so I could compare and show exactly what my crit rate was about a year ago. I know that comparing DPS, I am ~20% lower, instead of the ~7% hit I would expect just from the channeling change.
If everything is working as intended, please let me know, and I will stop trying to parse this / figure out exactly when/why my crit rate is substantially lower than my charm/tomes/AAs would suggest. (Any explanation of why/how this is the case would be appreciated too! Did something change in how crits are calculated in the past year?)
