Spires Bracers Discussion (Split from Fortune Favors the Diverse - Bonus Raid Loot)

Also with spires, having more, easier bosses, that only drop 1 loot standard, you actually have (or had years ago when i progressed here) two bonus loot chances. One chance at an extra normal item, and then a chance for a bracer. The guild boxing over tiered ringers to ensure nobody dies has a decent chance at 3 loots, while the new guild with on/under tier players, and inexperienced players that are likely to die, can easily be reduced to 0 bonus loot chance (lost a few single class players, especially since most raids start off missing a few classes).

I understand this is how its been for a long time, and this would boost the total amount of loot entering the game, but it really seems worth minimizing the advantages that are given for bringing over tiered boxes. If its deemed necessary, the bonus loot numbers could be tweaked down a bit to account for this.

There just seems to be a disconnection of Slaar's definition of Fortune favors the divine or "FFTD" and how it's used in spires. Slaar's phrase that is used severael times is:

I highly HIGHLY SUGGEST that you treat this entire mechanic as 'just something nice that happens sometimes'.

http://forum.shardsofdalaya.com/threads/fortune-favors-the-diverse-bonus-raid-loot.29039/

The way Slaar explains FFTD makes sense to me. Just a small chance at a bonus loot, adding in a random factor makes it fun. And it was a good idea that it is going mostly unappreciated amidst the constant debates.

However, the way it's explained in the linked thread and the way it's used in Spires is just contradictory. In spires, it's not 'something nice that happens', it's the ONLY way to get class bracers. I know the way Spires bracers have changed already a few times, but to use the FFTD loot system as the only way to get an item, just seems harsh and misguided.

the current system of mobs dropping a random bracer is kind of bad in my opinion and the original one of specific mobs dropping specific bracers should probably be reimplemented. On a side note, what the fuck happened to reanimated priest? That fight just owns people now and im not exactly sure what changed

That can happen. There are 3 types of spell damage iirc. Boss ae, boss dd, and add ae. If you get stacked can insta kill pretty much anyone.

The part where people have to live to the end of the fight to count towards it is almost certainly a matter of poor programming rather than intent.

Thinking on it, if I remember correctly the 18-man and 3-of-one-class engage limit code has the same limitation: the only thing preventing a raid from subbing in a 19th char after one dies (or leaves) is the rules. No good reason for it not to be simply impossible.

Supporting evidence for poor code rather than intent. Both should be using the same little system to remember who was on the hatelist until the hatelist becomes empty or the mob dies.

perhaps things were changed recently, but i have killed a spires boss years ago with 6 people and we got a bracer. also, the entire FFTD code seems to cease to exist in tier 13. only rujik has ever dropped a bonus loot.

Sure would be cool if these two occurrences were updated to be coded to also reflect their intent.

I think Taesh/Blaze/Monstro can drop bonus loot, the fights are just designed in such a way that people almost always die, and its not uncommon to finish the fight with like 5-10 people, destroying any chance at bonus loot. Seems like a bad system IMO that harder fights where people die yield less loot chance.

Manguadi wouldn't stand for any of this bullshit. this server needs Manguadi not bullshit code changes / care bear garabge.

In the book of Manguadi there is only one rule: Be better.

certainly possible. i personally have never seen 3 loots from blaze or taesh, and we've finished those fights with 18 many times. also never seen a bonus loot from sharn or monstro.

I've never seen them on Sharn'Ree or Monstro. I know it happened on Taesh once, and I want to say it happened on Blazewind once too, but I'm not certain. I only remember a couple instances of finishing those fights with 18. Especially Blazewind, I don't know if I ever saw a kill where nobody died. Even then, were usually missing a few classes to start with, and are only left with a small chance at bonus loot at best.

Taeshlin definitely dropped 3 loots one of the times I was there to kill it. Maybe even twice. Does sharnree drop that wrist with haste on it? Because I'm pretty sure I watched 2 of those drop with something else and one of them rotted. Maybe I am imagining all of this.

also be better get good and power through

To throw out a few statistics... Prophecy has been killing spires since 4/07/14.
In that time we have received 43 class bracers, and 29 of them have rotted.
We have yet to see a cleric bracer, have gotten 8 mage bracers, 5 druid, 4 rogue, 4 monk, 4 war, 4 enchanter, and a smattering of 2 or 3s. We have gotten every class excluding cleric, and only one SK.

This information is to simply set some metrics for folks to analyze as they please. If deemed valuable, I could begrudgingly get a relatively accurate number of spires named down.

Cleric was one of the first bracers I ever saw... and I've heard of plenty of SHD rot bracers... RNGeezus is a fickle deity sometimes. I haven't run any maths, but this does not seem outside of standard probability. I'd be really surprised if the bracer drop chance was weighted towards any specific class.

However, an over 50% rot rate is rough. I'm not sure which of the several bracer drop mechanics is/was best... but they all have pros and cons.

PLAYER HAT ON:

We have been raiding spires way longer then <Prophecy> (since 01/12/14). We have seen (and rotted) every single bracer except CLR a LOT by now. Even the new guys have their class bracers yet. CLR bracer, we have only ever seen once. So yeah, as a player, I'm a bit worried that something broke here.
