maybe the wiki could just use some simple rules like no quest answers and no strats.

I mean either extreme seems kind of ridiculous. No shared info would be bad news for any new players getting their bearings, or players without a bunch of time to kill, while full info/spoilers, except for some answers to step in the MQ, ends up detracting from the accomplishment of those spoiled quests/encounters, and it can be pretty much impossible to get people to try new strats or approaches for encounters with a strat already established.

those two rules leave the greater bulk of information that keeps players on track, while leaving critical parts to players to either figure out or seek help from other players to accomplish.

the jewelcrafting section is a great example of a happy medium. the beginning and middle levels of jewelcrafting are presented in a detailed chart and a guide, but the upper levels are unspoiled.

If you click to Platinum Earrings, you pretty much get what was left off the main page. I think the main page was a work-in-progress, that whoever was doing never finished. There's only 1 recipe that I know of that's missing.

I think people should be able to post whatever they want in the wiki (with the exception of things specifically banned by Staff). If you don't want to leverage off other people's information, don't read it. I personally would rather develop my own strats for encounters, but have no desire to spend time farming all the zones of Dalaya to find where a particular quest piece drops that the questgiver doesn't give any information about when you have to spend hours in the zone that it DOES drop in just to obtain it.

Well said!

the only reason i use the wiki nowadays is to learn where to look for drops when the quest giver doesnt say where to find it, only says what you need to find.

QG: Find item XX
You: uhh.. ok, where?
QG: Find item XX
etc..

i think you get the picture..

oh man i failed at the example :monocle:

A wiki without quest answers or strats could still provide all that pita information like drop location/confirmation right? Being able to direct people to the wiki for correct info is great. Being able to help provide that info is also great. Having all that info pretty nicely organized and maintained is the greatest.

So I largely agree with gunder's post. I've been using the wiki since it was the old wiki, with that crappy story of Wiz and Liam(?) toying with a player in the Warrens. It's provided a lot of help. It's helped many times with figuring out if a quest hand-in or other such thing was broken or missing. I just think things specifically banned by Staff should be generalized to quest answers and strats.

I've used the wiki as a resource a ton, and i would love to see many areas of it fleshed out more.

I still would hate to see SoD turn into WoW where one person/guild does content and then everyone else presses buttons while they read the wiki entry about it.

Me 2.. but that depends moreso on the players than the wealth of information available.. atleast thats what i think

Since I've had admin privileges on the wiki, I only recall two incidents of removing information. The first was someone posting MQ spoilers. The article had to be deleted and remade.

The other was the Prison sanctum fight. That was quite a revert war, and the only time I ever chose to protect an article to stop the edit wars. Its still one of the best... write ups... ever IMO, and anyone who wants to find the info on the wiki still can.

Strats in general seem to be taboo, and very few people leak anything past tier 3 out there. I personally see no problem with anyone putting it out in the open; its their own loss really.

I have been considering buying a good URL for the wiki and moving the hosting since the guy hosting it does not play much. Would still get his name on it for all the donated bandwithe though.

There was another episode where someone got mad at the admins and started overwriting pages with hello or some such.

We'd been trying to get it to host on the SoD site a while back, but he never provided us with the content to move over. I sent him another email earlier today, so lets see what happens.
