Pariah

Actually I was saying that 5% is a big deal, more than big enough to offset stats from any random aug.

Also yes Dimmi is Pariah because of a long sad story I've told many times about the wiki being a bold faced liar. If you'll notice, he's also Completely Chaotic and Evil, and has been since like level 60.

Also yes, I am bucking for a pariah aug to benefit myself, because I still play SoD.

This is a good post for illustrating the various ways new/uninformed players can permanently fuck up their character without knowing any better and never be able to fix it. I'd say the system as a whole should change, or there should be a way for people of any deity to do a quest to re-swear something else once they realize they messed up along with more ways to fix your alignment, but the odds of either of those happening are pretty poor.

I also agree that players should be able to switch deity. It makes more sense logically. Additionally, it is too easy to pick a deity without having any idea what you are doing. Then you are basically stuck.
That said, people should only be allowed 1 deity augment if deity switching is allowed.

what about those who killed in their gods place? should they be given a freebie after everything? I sure would like to kill in tot then be able to pledge tarhyl once I dont need anything else

I find it funny to see you posting in this thread considering I have you quoted in game as stating you went Pariah because "fuck doing quests and work". Granted, this was on your alt...

I actually pariah'd my ranger from Althuna because ive never raided there and wanted to actually see it :psyduck:. But yes fuck doing althuna aug over and over and over.

The deity switch is kind of a cool idea but it would probably mean having a quest to earn back the trust of whoever you are trying to pledge to.

Solution : You cannot switch to a deity where you have killed. Much like how you cannot pledge to places you have killed.

Maybe some Gods will forgive prior transgressions if you pledge yourself to service in their name.

A 20% spec bonus really isn't that easy to get and maintain if you don't pick a deity early, pick a faction that boosts alignment for it and then start gaining alignment towards it by paying attention to quest dialogues. I see tons of players who have a deity picked by have a sub-15% spec bonus, even some sad dudes with negative spec bonus.

Once upon a time I could port to plane of nightmare.. and Robella told me if I changed my diety to Pariah I could get phat loots in Plane of Nightmare... unfortunately I wasn't aware of diety augs at the time. I wasn't aware that choosing certain quest dialogues could change my character either.. I simply picked what a nice person would say lol.

I dunno man, I'm max CoI aug and I'm 20% deity spec for Gradalsh. And I really wasn't paying a lot of attention most of the time.

Unless you have at least some knowledge before playing SoD, chances are you are going to mess up your alignment a bit. My first character I had no idea what I was doing as far as choices went, and that making certain choices actually effected me later. Hell, I didn't even know I could swear to a god until I was into 65 with a few dozen AAs.

Granted this way back in 2006, and things are a bit more common knowledge (or at least seem to be) now. Luckily I didn't really stick with my first character, so I didn't have to figure out some way to fix his alignment. Also I believe I was ignorant to the real benefit to having 20% spec bonus and eventually went Pariah so I could raid the zone I was sworn to.

My second and third characters became easier and easier, because I experienced more of the content and had a better grasp on this concept. This is just my personal interaction with the whole thing, but I imagine I can't be the only one to have this be the case.

i had a semi-similar case vitali. first toon i swore to enthann cause he was only active deity quest atm but my alignment was way off cause i didnt take quest deity hits seriously at the time. on my second and now third toon i was able to get to 20% with tarhansar without major issues (close call with warrior cause i messed up a couple times) basically my first toon was my "test the waters" toon and more choices were create dby the time i was ready to do such things on my later toons.

I dont really understand why it isnt allowed to just choose a different deity. Is there really any reason against this other than "Thats the way its always been"

I would have loved to swear Tarhyl, but back when ToT was about as end game as it gets... I wasnt willing to pass up General BP, Well gloves, Mephar pants, Ashpyre pieces, favored concubine gloves, etc... for an aug.

Losing out on lower end content (PoNightmare, cant get a Ravenward clicker... shame) wont kill you, but when ToT was end all be all barring yourself from the zone completely would have been ridiculous. The only way I would swear a toon Tarhyl, even now, is if it was one I liked and would just scum into Spires alt raids AND had no interest in getting their ToT weapon.

Well gloves

Well gloves can be gotten by tarhyl pledged toons np (those well spirits are rebels after all!), and a ravenward clicker is available by 2 non-PoN soirces as well: final marlow aug event has a chance to drop it, and there is allways A Glowing Black Pearl...

Ah you got me with the gloves. I had actually only assumed it was associated with Tarhyl. However saying "Dont worry about getting your Britle Stone in PoNightmare, we can always get it from 4.3" is kinda dubious at best. It's not a complete game changer by any means, but having it or a few early on in tier progression can help a bit on close fights.

I also heard a rumor a Marlow sworn SK can get a Whirlwind from final aug event as well, but much like the stone I imagine it is incredibly rare and wouldn't compare to the ability to kill Hlail or Before You Wake every few days. However, I am glad alternative routes of getting certain items are available now (or rather in the more recent past).

If final Marlow aug event has a chance to drop it this probably also means that many deity aug events that drop a single loot have a chance to drop it because they share the same loot. I've never seen a Ravenward click drop from one but I have seen for example the Theft of Thought face slot click drop from multiple events as well as the Pacify click which is super good for SK and monk drop from multiple events.
