New item listing system discussion

As I understand it:

1) Max number of listable items is 20
2) Ill be spamming everyone I meet with /cm listsold
3) In order to buy something from someone I have to tell them I am interested
4) Instead of having automated vendors, players will gather in soon to be common places where everyone will /cm listprice each other.
5) /auc might now include the name of your character who has listed items instead of links to the items

Because this system requires more player activity than before, I wonder how it will affect trade on the whole. I imagine that those who played in the off peak hours relied on the vendors for the majority of their purchases and with automation gone their progression will be slowed somewhat. I don't know that this solves the problem of overpricing since there is no way to check the listed prices for whatever item you are trying to sell. I do imagine that players will gather in newport more frequently for bazaar type sales events and where the automated vendors stood there will be large collections of players running around /cm listsold'ing each other. So ultimately I imagine this system will give rise to more active trading along the lines of what we all saw in the various sale zones on live.

I could well be wrong but I envisage two groups of players, sellers & buyers. Stationary people peddling their wares, and others browsing with the command. It would certainly be pretty hectic if everyone were to run around using the command on anybody they saw.

Speaking as one of those people who play in the off peak hours, (although increasingly I've found myself playing US hours, purely to keep along the same progression pace as others I know), I doubt this will be a problem. I personally only relied on the vendors for a few select items, and most of the vendors had ludicrously overpriced stock anyway. Indeed, with this new system, at least I'll be able to collar somebody who's trying to sell for a moronic amount and, hopefully, haggle, as opposed to the 'take it or leave it' option that the vendors presented.

So if people want to buy an item off of you then you'll have to meet them face to face to do the transaction? I havent used the system yet but don't follow how it's going to be easier than auctioning....I like how you are you involved alot more in haggling but if you have to be there to give them the item why not just do a serverwide auction so everybody sees what you're sellnig and not just the 5 people who see you to know to check what you're selling?

I Thought Wiz said you can do the /cmsold by name if not in the same zone.

Too bad you can't search by item type. If I want a pair of boots, I have to click or type every person I see untill hopefully they will have boots for sale.

Ah, but think:

You're interested in a new pair of boots. You /auc WTB boots for XXX class, upgrade to YYY boots wearing now tia. Then anybody anywhere with boots for sale that hears you can automatically link you the boots they're selling, without having to run to their bank or vendor to show them.

Yea All, but in order to make the transaction dont you have to come BACK to the bank to get them the item thats in the shared bank slot?

Quick suggestion: should be something like a tag you can put on if you're jsut standing around trying to sell things to help catch peoples attention.

Sure you actually have to meet up, but that's not so bad, particularly when you can kind of guage when you'll be done xp'ing in Eldenals or something. In fact, I did it several times when I had an actual vendor because someone wanted to trade me items + pp, or because I was refunding someone on an item that I had lowered the price on but was changed to no drop.

In any case, if any of that made sense, the point is: it's a little harder, but there's more interaction. And it's not at all unreasonable.

ugh

Speaking as a SoD newbie, only been playing for about a month, this system is horrid. I dont spend the time that i do in game on buying and selling, so i dont sit in newport for hoursWTS'ing and WTB'inbg. If im in a dungeon and someone auctions that they WTB some boots that i have rotting in my bank, they are pretty much out of luck, im not going ot leave my group just to go make a few plat. This is the main reason that an automated system of some kind is vital to a healthy in-game economy.

i'm for this new system. at first i wasn't but then i got to understand it better. Basically, it gives the buyer the advantage. No longer will you have to pay more plat than you want to for something better. The only disadvantage i see is listing limitations.

So you figure there's a lot of like-minded individuals who won't make some cash for necessary upgrades?

Hello there pain-in-the-ass deal rendevous and reduced timezone support.

(This new shared bank list system should have been in addition to vendors, not a replacement for them.)

I hope there's some tweaking to do with this new system.
ATM I can't see the advantage over just using /auc? except someone mentions 20 items can be listed (not that I can......)
Now, some kind of search system that applies to all listed items.... that'd be useful.

I think the system would be fine IF there were at least a semi-automated way to perform the trade. If you could make a deal, and somehow perform the transaction without running back to the bank to get the item out, and having to meet the buyer face-to-face, it'd be great. As it is, the seller would still have to break themselves out of whatever group they're in and travel to make the sale, which I don't think will happen much.

This levels the playing field for everyone as opposed to giving those people with vendors an advantage, but it's actually worse even for those of us who never had a vendor as now we can't even buy conveniently, and selling will still consist of standing by the bank /auc. :(

With this system you are chained to the bank. Atleast when auctioning you can have the items on you, and if needed can TL to Nweport and do the transaction there. Now though, I would have to run all the way back to the bank to get the item (assuming im not in the middle of something important).

Another issuethat is going to come up (I think) is going to be mules. Now you could argue that you could use mules right now to sell things and you're right, but this new system moves mroe in a step n the direction of less having to keep up with them. What I mean is I can just put "Jadnzmyule" by the bank with and AFK message up saying "Send tells to Jadn if interested in buying something". Whereas if I wanted to auction things on my mule, I would have to occassionally pop over and do my /auction messages instead of just going AFK in a corner.

I'm not saying vendors were superior to this system at all. However, this isn't a step forward...more like a step sideways.

Perhaps we should wait until the market days get under way before getting in a furore. Once these get under way I think they'll cure most of the ills listed here, aside perhaps from the complaints that you'll have to break away from your busy exping schedule in order to sell some rations for 5cp.

Has anybody actually lost a sale yet because they were busy in a group? Can't you just set aside the item for the buyer until a more convenient time for you?

So, you expect on a market day that everyone will run around doing a /cm listsold or whatever it is, on each person? Surely, it'll be just using /auc or whatever, as usual for many people. That'd be easier....

However, if there were a search system implimented for these 'marketdays', then that would make a difference. However, that's something we don't know about yet, and as far as I can see there aren't many details about these 'days'.

Most of the ills listed here might be sorted, but by changes or 'new things' still to come.... I don't think that particularly impacts on this discussion. Unless you think in all situations that there might be something new around the corner to sort the/a problem, so the problem shouldn't be discussed....

From my playing with the new system, it doesn't offer anything that is better than using /auc..... (currently, sure....)

Maybe it was just because it was the first night under the new system, but I could hardly get into the bank last night with all the idling mules standing in/near it. I can forsee some mule rules in the near future similar to the laws that prohibit people from campaigning too close to polling places.

Also, the town looks empty without the vendors, but running around with a /cmd listsold hotkey takes care of my ADD impulses more than adequately.

The real advantage I see is for people who have the ability to DC but don't. I don't like to DC myself, but I don't mind idling a mule character in Newport with an afk message if I've got things to sell.
