Moneysink Alternatives to Charms.

I'd love to be able to place a bounty on players. Eg. 5k = Joe is now +pvp for a week.
First player to gank joe gets 20% of the original fee, with the remaining taken out of the economy.

Very nice. Although I don't think it would go over so well with some of the non-pvp types.

Indeed. Forced PvP = huge no-no, especially since PvP isn't terribly fitting with SoD, both in game mechanics (as every change I've seen put in addressed PvE issues) and in other technical aspects (lag, size of hitbox, etc).

HOWEVER, I wouldn't be against optionnal PvP for the duration of a bounty. If the targeted player accepts to be hunted, then he becomes PvP enabled for, say, the next 24 hours logged in (i.e. he can't camp out to let the timer run out). If he survives, then he gets part of the bounty amount as a reward (something small, maybe 10-20%). The rest of the money vanishes. If the bounty offer is refused, then the "betting" player gets his money back, perhaps minus a small processing fee or something.

*shrug* Didn't give it much thought, no clue if it is even possible to code in.

No no, I like the idea of bounty hunters and forcing PVP for a limited amount of time, once PVP is balanced. I mean, its' not something that's just going to be done left and right on a whim. If you have to pay 30k for somebody's head, it's not likely to happen every day and to low profile level 30 characters. (Although it would be interesting to scale the price to the level).

I don't know. There's a lot of things to be worked through, but I would find this a thorougly entertaining and worthwhile place to put my cash.

Awardis, I'm coming for you!

This could affect raids negatively, however.

what if you had to flag yourself as being ok with bounties in order to have a bounty put on your head / collect a bounty on someone else's? unlike normal pvp, there'd have to be heavy restrictions in place to make sure you couldn't switch back and forth easily.

Tradeskill moneysinks are far more realistic and easier to code.

Yeah, that's true. The PVP thing is mostly just fun to think about, but it's pretty unrealistic.

A progressive quest that utlizes all available tradeskills at moderate to high level skill to ultimately create "uber-item-01" for the questee (which is no-drop).

I'm nagging. I don't want to spend time mapping out an example quest if progressive quests like this are not viable at this time. Anyone (quest designers that is)??

I'd outline a miniature quest idea in detail, and PM it to Xeldan. They are always taking on new quest designers if you show the interest and the talent. From there, you can talk about those ideas.

If anyone on this server forces me to PvP, I swear I kill you night and day for it, Aline :psyduck:

forced pvp wouldnt go well because then i could just stick a bounty on rival guilds MT(or healers) and gank them while raiding because thier failure = more loot for me and mine.

I don't know if anybody here has every played Kingdom of Loathing, but awhile ago they needed a big money sink and what they did is had a big damn event where they desperately needed a weapon (they built a giant cannon) which cost alot of money to make. Wham, people donate because they know they gotta protect the city or there could be a big disaster.

Athica was an event based money sink, and it would have been a good one except that nobody at the time cared about Athica. However if something happened to a city that was important... say Newport... Well. People might be alot more willing to donate some plat to the cause.

If it were outfitting an army to face kaezul, then yes, that would be great. Putting forth a situation where a main town will be destroyed if people don't pay is too close to extortion

I was a rogue.  Old habits die hard.

But seriously, extortion or not Newport is one of the only cities that people care about (large amounts of people anyway. I've always preferred Erudin).  I'm not saying destroyed, but if a few key buildings came to harm...

The point of the game is fun and challenge in my opinion. I don't see how forcing people to sink money into a town is either. Maybe I'm missing something...

I don't care really. There's always Grobb...or Oggok...or Athica... You get the point. :) Destroy one and people will use another.

Forcing PvP isn't a good idea either. The fact that you can get on Fomelo and look up what gear someone has beforehand makes that kinda silly. Besides...I don't play PvP. If I want PvP i'll play Unreal Tournament. PvP in RPG's is always gear and level based much more than skill based. It always has been. If people like it, then fine, but I would guess that the majority of the people here wouldn't. If they did, they'd be playing Guild Wars instead.

EXACTLY. Thats why it needs to happen to Newport, the one city that is indispensible to most players. The whole point is that they need to get money out of the system. And unless you just go around to all the high level guilds and go "Okay, I want to you to destroy all your plat" you have no real way to get rid of it easily.

Charms are a good idea, but looking at some of the top level ones... man thats just crazy. Now in my opinion, anybody that spends the time and effort to collect the money necessary to buy those top tier charms are very well deserving of them. But there's got to be a better way. I'm not saying I came up with the best way, but I certainly don't think the charms are the right way to go.
