Moneysink Alternatives to Charms.

I have the BEST idea ever...

How about if you're level 65 and you don't donate you're charged a plat tax on your account. Since obviously the plat is surging into the economy mostly from the upper tier of players. This also makes sense because if you're level 65, then you've been on the server a LOT and thus are using bandwidth.

You donate to keep the server up, you avoid the plat tax. You don't donate, then you give up a certain percentage of money on all characters on an account each month.

That sounds fair to me.

I bet that would work out splendidly. Please...flame away all...

As for the idea about "destroying" Newport... no. Players start there, so you can't just destroy a town where newbies are unless you move their starting point to another zone. Sure you could maybe make less tradeskill friendly places or move the portal out of Newport, etc... but honestly...if you want to make Newport less crowded, you could make racial tensions harder to overcome in the game.

No need to punish the human players just because everyone wants to hang out in their city.

As an alternate option to the racial tensions...make each city a "specialty" in something. For example alchemy tradeskill supplies in Halas, fishing and tailoring supplies in Newport, blacksmithing supplies in Erudin and Underhill, etc etc.... something like that. Then if people need something they'll go to that place to take care of it.

This is off track though...I'm just saying, the "plat or we'll destroy your town" idea really doesn't sound fun for me. Athica was rebuilt and....well I dunno. There's nothing in Athica that makes me want to go there more than any other town. Are the people who rebuilt the city even recognized for doing so? If there's no incentive, people just won't do it. Even being that I mostly play human characters, if someone said "Donate your money to save Newport or else!" I'd be like "See ya...I'm gonna go live in Grobb or Oggok..." There is nothing in Newport to make it that special to me.

If the point is to not make people all hang out in the same city, then if you make one city less pleasant to be in or destroy it entirely, then that just means there are less options for people to hang out. And then MORE will congregate in another city.

Then you'd move the plat to another account without a 65. Also, I can't say I'd be sad to see any city be destroyed and certainly wouldn't be paying any taxes on it.

Quite right. Although I'm sure something could be made to work where even if you didn't have a percentage based money sink on non-donators, you could have something based on being 65 and the number of AA's they have...I'm just thinking of a means to give a choice to the matter at hand as well. Server donations and coin inflation of the server are always going to be two constant factors...so to tie them together seems to make sense to me. Money for money as it may be.

Well, I can't think of any other surefire way to make a plat sink really unless you want to let people purchase clicky ports...then I know a lot of people would be dropping the coin...

Raise an armada to make an amphibious assault on ikisith. Before the content goes in set a date that "kaezul doesn't know" so everyone can be online and reasy to bust out into the new areas to fight the opening battle.
Who wouldn't donate all their shiney monies to see such a spectacle?

Make charms NO DROP.

Your current charm can be traded to the charm dealer if you have the correct amount of coin on you and then you can can pick a more expensive charm. (ie - it will give you credit in the amount that yoru charm originally cost...so you don't LOSE value by buying a charm, but you can continue to upgrade them).

It allows people to upgrade their charms (which is why people are accumulating massive amounts of money), but also keeps people from selling their charms and getting back the plat they've sunk into it.

Alternately you could make charms NO DROP without the ability to trade them in for credit, but I think that's too harsh really.

The current plan is to make charms NO DROP but redeemable for a portion of their cost.

Possibly make the fame-point-buyable items available at a vendor for fairly high prices?

Or maybe buying fame points? at like 1 or 2k each?
