Magicians

Yes that staff is of the elements, i.e. made from the elements; doesnt mean a mage is the master of all of the elements.

Why do people think we are masters of the elements?

Because

We are masters of the elements in a sense that we can create a pet of each type.

and also turn into a element of each type.
and at some point mages are called "Elementalists", 51-55?
and like half their AAs are "Elemental blah".

It is kind of weird that Mages do not have more diversity of spells. It is also a hindrance to the class. Why stand on poor design instead of embrace a double fix?

Because then you are creating more problems for the mage than you are fixing. You are adding new focus to worry about new spell damage type to itemize for, on a class that already has arguable one of the most focus effects to try and balance. Especially to try and swap mentalities at the end of the game. Furethermore there is no hindrace to the mage class the way things currently are. If mobs are fire immune or resistant you use magic and or elemental barriage. If they are magic use fire and elemental barriage.

...if they are both fire and magic resistant, go get some ice cream and/or a beer and/or a coffee?

How many mobs in this game are both fire and Magic resistant that are not just flat out all spell resistant.

Also even when mobs are resistant there are debuffs that can get it low enough nukes still land.

Not any, actually. But then again I don't claim to know the resists of all fights out there...

cold based rains would be cool.... and shimone you just dont want a cold based rain cause you dont wanna put ur hurthi back on.... QQ...
Part of mages problem is how big their class tomes are when you can kill in that zone for years adn never see the tomes... That shouldnt be a thing. Either class tomes system needs a revamp or part of what those tomes fixes needs to be more innate.

I think we are getting off track here a bit. I was hoping for more mages to chime in but either there aren't that many around versus rest of population or they are only good at casting mod rods. I created this thread from first hand experience being a mage and wanted to share the challenges that a mage faces on higher tier content. I'll say it again, our class works as intended but it seems that the higher end content was made without us in mind.

I somewhat agree with this. I think other classes far outshine us, however I don't think there is much that needs to be done to tweak it. A lot of it is that we do not scale very well. Class book fixes this but its way high end game before it gets fixed. The biggest thing is that a new quick nuke high dmg fast cast with recast would be ideal. Also, a high end rain would be nice that is either magic or fire cause that is all of our spell types. Personally I would prefer fire as that would go progression wise.

maybe just give archaic a huge resist adjust since our class is kinda based around it.. and another high end rain would be coolLost Word: Embrace of Elael, 1050 base / 5.75 cast / 12 sec recast. Have that guy who thinks hes elael drop it..... elemental barrage is not an ideal(its horrible i haven't memed it since harn) spell would be way cool as a quick cast spell along the lines of what moraelin is talking about. Maybe a fire based rain likes,

actually im getting kinda crazy... just a new quick nuke... and class tomes are just too important......

Third, mages are not a burn class aside from some situational clickies. We have 2 settings - relic/archaic rains which are slow casting and Bladewind/Elemental Barrage for some meh single target dps. Mages tend to avoid casting single target nukes whenever possible because rains are more efficient for mana vs. dps. If mages have any sort of "burn" ability, I would have to say that it would involve our swarm pets, the AA and the Runic 1, both of which are nearly wiped out to higher tier fights within seconds. Did I mention you cannot cast runic 1 if there is any mezzing going on because that swarm pet rains if multiple targets are on agro list? When you combine the problems listed above with the slow casting of mage spells, you have a not so fun time with an otherwise fun class.

3) Add a new quick fire DD to replace scars of sigil. Again in the post archaic to runic range. I think something in the range of 2000 damage 500 mana 2 second cast and 2 second cooldown. Something to twist in between rains, but cannot chain spam like blazewind.

An upgrade to scars of sigil really seems overdue. With so many fights requiring fast damage to adds with relatively low health it would really help breakup the monopoly that Wizards/rangers have over bursting targets quickly. Like I said before, in the T10-11 range, I can't think of a fight where I would rather have a 2nd mage (or sometimes even 1 mage) over a 3rd wizard or ranger. I'm not saying mages should be able to burst as hard as wizards, but right now it's not even comparable.

Quick summary of burst options compared to mages

Rather than stepping on Wizard's toes by changing/adding nukes. Would there be a way to use pet / monster summoning / swarm pet as burst damage?

How is having a quick nuke stepping on wizards toes? Thiers will still be better and we already have one we just want an upgrade. Plus ranger and sks already have quick nukes as well.

I was meaning more along the lines of flavor toes than functionality toes. Upgrade to Scars of Sigil would probably be just as good.
