i was going through some posts and saw the one where wiz posted screenshots, the one someone bumped after it was 23 months old!!!. but yea. it really made me think. i would love to start from scratch. everyone at level 1 again!. i know many, including myself, have put a lot of hard work into their characters. and to lose them, well, would kill the drive to play. i myself wouldnt quit. but i am curious how many would also want to start back at stage 1. and saying just to start a new char isnt the same. all old players know what it was like back then. and i think they would agree starting now at lvl 1 isnt the same.

btw this is just to see if im a single person who would like to start from the very beginning.=)

I voted no, but then I just started....and just got to 12! Sure its not far, but these days I dont have too much time to play. I also prefer playing on a slightly more mature server, there seems to be plenty of newbies around, so thats no problem, and having higher levels around also (somewhere, only seen a single 65 so far), means more tradeskilled stuff to be passed down to us lowbies.

There's a difference between wanting to start over, and being willing to start over. The poll question seems to ask if you'd be willing to start over, while your post seems to ask if someone would like to start over.

For instance, I do not want to start over AT ALL, but I would be willing to do so if the data was suddenly lost.

To the question as it's phrased currently in the poll I'd say yes, but in response to your post, I'd say no.

tis a good reply. and this is why posting why you vote is good=)

yes my phrasing is a tad off. im not only wanting but willing to start over. as i would love to be there from the beginning. i never got that feeling on live. and i never got it here. and i really dont know if i will get it in any game. unless the game was to do a character wipe to start over.
but yea im more or less curious if there happens to be any other people who would like to start out from the beginning and work back up. and i really dont expect to see many. because most people would view it as time wasted and pointless. but i have wasted so much time on games. i forgot where i heard it... but time wasting is not time wasted.... i play a game to waste time while giving myself some entertainment. and as much as i like my lvl 65s and all their not so uber gear. i think itd be a lot of fun to go from level 1. raiding with plate and leather again. and its not the same if u do it because you want to, for example strapping on standered plate and raiding dn at the current time. in a few games i played a reset generated a lot of competiton. to be the first to do this and that.. it was entertaining.
and no. i really dont see this happening. i just want to know if im the only one who thinks it could be awesome. and if the characters get wiped somehow i hope no one blows up my house=( i wouldnt waste my time trying to damage any databases. mainly cuz id probably make it about as far as playing minesweeper and planning my tactics.

also, i know when i started on shards of dalaya. it was a nice feel. starting over. but as i played.. i gained quickly due to the availability of things. whereas in the beginning. things werent so available.

i think im done=/

I have found that starting over in the same game does NOT give you "that feeling." When I first logged onto EQlive, I was amazed, probably more so than most because of my lack of knowledge about computers and the internet. At that time, everything to me was totally unbelievable and astonishing. Unfortunately, I started maybe a month or so before Luclin came out and once I had Luclin and PoP, "that feeling" left pretty quickly. I went from being amazed at how much there was to explore in just Misty Thicket alone, to being bored because now I could look around just about any zone with just a click of the mouse or a short wait by the scion.

When I first started SoD, about a year ago, "that feeling" came back to me again. I was like wow, I know this stuff, but yet I don't know this stuff. I couldn't seem to spend enough time trying to take in as much of the new as I could. However, "that feeling" fades once you know most of the content and zones and mobs and you become one of the folks that can easily answer most of the questions asked in /ooc.

After playing EQlive for about 2 years, I became totally bored. So, I thought what you thought, I'd start all over again from scratch, I made another account so that I couldn't even use shared bank from my original account. "That feeling" never came back, having known all the newb quests and what mobs drop what just made it just as boring if not more so than being level 65. And EQlive is worse because of the adding of so many expansions. Sure I knew all the low end content really well, but the high end content was a bit more difficult to learn because you no sooner start exploring/learning it and bam, a new expansion and trying to get a group in an old expansion zone is next to never. And of course exploring solo in high end is near impossible, especially for a cleric.

SoD no longer gives me "that feeling" either, however SoD also still has folks needing to explore, SoD still has places unseen and that are not just a mouse click away. And what's nice is there is still a chance of finding others to explore with because there isn't yet another expansion for high ends to abandon what they currently have leaving the up and coming high ends out of the exploration fun. Also, I enjoy starting new characters over again on SoD. I don't get "that feeling" but I do have fun because the quests and content is different in every starting zone. So, I purposely start new characters of varying races just so I can experience quests and content for that race/class combo.

So no, starting over on any game will never give you "that feeling" back, but the addition of new things to content that already exists makes you stick around to enjoy that fun. Much better than adding an expansion and making the game "stupid easy" in the sense that it's boring(PoP). Or adding an expansion and making what you had already, obsolete.

I wouldn't make a new mage for sure. I love playing a mage now, summoning stuff to newbies, having sense heading 200 and ah-ahs..

Especially for the sense heading part :D I know it goes up fast, but I just forget to level it up.

I probably would start once again, but another class. I'd like to do different quests, go to different zones, try new styles of playing, get different abilities.
Even though it's so great to be able to summon your own drink any never worry about being thirsty :p

i must say, i didnt expect to see many yes votes... and yally says his comment as if he almost thought similar to me. that it would be fun to go at it again from the beginning.

and i realize that i may NEVER have the feeling i first had when i started live. i didnt even have it when i started SoD. i could use a metaphor but its very innapproriate=) so.. skip that. but when i started sod.. it was a huge relief. i felt a lot better to be able to play and work on a character again.
and live... well... they had way to many expansions for me to keep up with. being only a 13-14 year old when playing i had no job to pay for all of em. paper route was just not rewarding enough for me to waste my time on it. my times very valuable! kinda=/ maybe not. but anyhow. when i finally got one.. there was another. so i was ALWAYS behind the game. it sucked. ive never been able to play from the start in a eq type game. i use to play browser based games for fun every now and then. and on them they had resets from big updates and stuff. and after every reset. there was a huge increase in player base. everyone wanted to be the first to goals. first to level 100. first to 500. first to 1000. so forth. it almost scares me to think what some people would do to be first. i saw people playing things dorky clicky games for over 12 hours STRAIGHT.. just to be on the top of the list. i heard of people spending over 20+ hours. i myself could only go 12=) hehe.
i believe ive hit the high end of sod. and i have seen people come and go. i am not sure how much a char wipe would appeal to many. but i know itd sure as hell give me a drive to put some massive hours in to fight to be up in the first for classes. and i think one real loss from the new game feel that wouldnt happen is mobs and things would be the same. to revamp all that would be crazy. so much work. plus the games great as is. many havent had the opprotunity to excperience it all. itd be a shame to change it all. but i think itd be a lot of fun to be able to see everyone start new.

btw its 4 am here and im kinda out of it=/ so if i repeat or make no sense try not to harass me about it=(

Anyways, the question is tricky:

Would you still be playing if they chars got reset? Yes.

Do you want the chars to be reset? No.

:)

No; can't say that I would since I'm fairly new already.

wouldnt have guessed that seeing you in game. u play pretty well.

i also notice there is a lot more votes than posts. would love to hear more thoughts=)
and as long as there is a no vote i highly doubt the idea of a char wipe will be taken into consideration.

Would i still play if accounts got whiped? yea, im still pretty low lvl so wouldnt really affect me THAT much...

Do i want the chars reset? im kinda undecided bout that... maybe a better solution would be have another server where every one starts off from scratch or something... its funny on live when they made a new server to see every one running around in noob gear lol... if there was another server, i would definatly play that!!

I voted yes, and my thinking goes like most people here.

Yes I would start over if all character data somehow poofed,
but I do not wish for it to happen.

Maybe if the economy was ruined or whatever a wipe would
be appropriate, but seeing as how good the server is doing
there is no reason to wipe the server at all.

I like it the way it is, thanks!

I'd be so mad if there was a wipe (for reasons other than unescapable technical ones of course) i'd probably get banned from my /rant. But that aside if I managed to escape the ban i'd carry on...

haha =)

Like almost everyone else that posted, I would start over if for some reason there was an accidental wipe, but I would never choose to loose all the hard work I put into my toons. Just my 2cp.

I'd restart simply because I love SoD. And now that I got my EQW working, leveling would be so so easy. ;)
