Bard Pristine Instruments

Yeah, as long as it's only pristine removal I can get behind this but I think changing the mod on the Flute especially would be a big hit to players who don't have access to these raid drops. Good wind instruments are few and far between unfortunately.

Perhaps Modding on Raid Instruments?

I know it was suggested before that Bard Instruments be able to be modified like other items. Not sure if this is a bitch to code or alter, but perhaps making the Raid drop instruments modifiable while leaving the lower instruments as they are might be something to consider.

People seem to lose sight on the whole idea behind this post. With pristine implemented, dropable instruments gained A LOT of power, while raid/no drop instruments were not upgraded. Putting them back to their original modifiers (with pristine bonus) doesn't "nerf" them from what they were. Should be happy to have used the stronger instruments for this long.

Either removing the pristine effects from instruments, or nerfing the original mods on bard instruments are two options.

I was referring to your first option above. If you simply strip off pristine, there will be no more advantage of earning something yourself. Nerfing original mods is much better.

This is what wiz planned on doing from the first post. Nerfing dancers tamb and increasing flutes higher than fribbit

I understand the concern to have droppable items have lower stats then the hard-to-get raid and no-drop items. However, please consider that raid items and other high level no-drop items in question are pretty much impossible to get for the average player.

Having a mod 2.5 Drum has been critical to my game play. Having a 2.6 mod pristine drum has not. Having a 1.0 mod drum kinda sux'd because it took so terribly long to kite anything with it.

Suggestions:
1. Implement a Drum, Flute, and Horn quest equal to the the Starfall Lute quest. Starfall Lute quest is an excellent quest, one of the best in game in my opinion. Maybe dancers drum and fribbit flute should have level restrictions, or something.

2. Drop the whole Pristine thing all together. Good concept but in actual application isn't working out like anyone hoped, I my opinioin.

3. If this is really a problem increase the stats on the rare drops that Uber Bards can get, rather than nerf the stats for the most desired items that Average Bards can get.

What we don't want is for people to get the idea that gamers who have used specific items to build exceptional avatars are more than willing to nerf those same items after they have access to the higher end stuff. This kind of think kills the game expectations for new players, quickly stagnating the server population.

I completely disagree with your assertion that pristine isn't working well. A 10% boost is very nice and makes a good number of items desirable to players who are able to kill the MOB that drops it, as apposed to farming enough cash to buy the next level of item.

It isn't an assertion so much as an opinion, but Yes, a 10% boost is nothing to sneeze at.

My point is that if we are going to nerf Bard instruments then I could live with a 10% nerf, but I don't think a 50% or 100% nerf is in any way reasonable.

In my game time here on SoD I will probably never see a piece of Melodic Armor or that Seraphic Voice sword. But I can at least get a decent percussion instrument in the Dancer's Tamborine.

When was this discussed at all?
People, stop knee-jerking....

Seriously, what the hell?

I want instruments to be balanced like they were previously, before pristine affected the mods. This does not mean they will be reduced by anything more than 10%. Everyone calm down, and stop thinking the high end players are always out to get you.

This is about balance, nothing more.

Flute of the Fribbit is 2.4(2.5)

What is the next upgrade, where does it drop and who has one?

I already tweaked most droppable instruments that were beating out raid ones down by .1, the ToK post just hasn't been updated.

Hey Wiz,

It seems the main two culprits [Dancer's Tambourine 2.5(2.6) and Flute of the Fribbit 2.4(2.5)] have been unchanged. These two are really the only problematic ones as they step on the toes of their "high end" counterparts. The drum more than the flute, as the Coda is usable in the range slot, and the Dragonbone Flute is 2.6 or 2.7 (cannot remember). The best dropable drum (pristine) and best no drop drum have the same mods, however.

And then later says:

Hey Wiz,

I am sorry that the two droppable Bard instruments that really give Bards an advantage at mid to low level is stepping on your high end toes.
