Zone population reporting?

It often seems that people can't find space or groups or empty areas, or at least that is what I noticed. What about somehow working it so that people could pull the population of a zone or the list of zones? Could possibly do /cm zonepop and have it supply a list of zones and the # of people in each?

Benefits to this would be-
Making a group and you would have a good idea where to go hunt without overcrowding.
Planning on soloing would let you find empty zones.
Seeking a group would let you find areas with more people.
Could help increase use of some zones.

Drawbacks-
Maybe giving more info than staff would want too.
Demand on server for all the /cm zonepop may cause?

Just an idea =)

Another Drawback: it puts PvP players in the awkward situation of letting people know where they are, even with /role or /anon on.

I'm not sure it's entirely necessary. If you know what zones you want to exp in, you can already do a /who all cmal (even if you're in Dragon Necropolis) and see if there's anybody there.

A quick /who all 40 50 will let you know where most of the people in that level range are hunting.

A /who all 65 folllowed by a quick /who all cmal, /who all kedge, /who all eldenal, /who all plagueland (or whatever zones you see the level 65s in) will provide the same information without all of the unnecessary information (where all the level 1-40s are) that you'd get with the type of system you're suggesting.

i disagree Allielyn am sure they could code a "Invsable mode" that would exclude them players from the list, and its a bit hard to know the short zone names for all zones name 10 zones for players 20-35 that you know the short zone names for. well thats not the point anyways the idea behind his suggestion is giveing people a beter idea to where thay could hunt to find groups, in eq no mater the emu its a need thing for example ever see a rog solo 30+? with out being twinked out the ass.

anyways i support the idea but am sure theres some twinking to the idea to make it work for eveyone like the "invsable mode"
and wouldnt list ALL zones only zones that are in your level range. and No empty zones and you could only use the command once a game day to prevent a bog down on the server from populating so many lists.

okie well thats my thoughts now flame me for speaking my mind ;)

i just use "/ all zonename".. if you know the good exp zones you can figure out in maybe 30 seconds whats camped and whats not (it also shows anon people)

The server is laggy enough already from time to time... commands like these only make that worse! Seeing as to how every player requesting that list of population would cause high loads on the database and a lot of extra network traffic of data.

Maybe as an alternative to a /cm, there could be a link on the main page to a list of zones and populations? Like Wanelo, but just a simple numerical expressions. Or if you wanted to keep it more vague you could go with a color code.

White=0-10
red = 11-20
orange = 21-30
yellow =31-40
green
blue
indigo
violet

Etc etc etc. I do not think it would be a heavily used system, to be honest. Just something handy. Like IIRC, used when needed, or Wanelo, or the Wiki, or any of the other tools we have available for information.
