Why not make donating more worthwhile

Meant long-term support, I'm sure there is a wide variety of support but suspect that a lot of people donate only for a short while. There are probably even a few who donate long after they stop playing. Getting off thread but just trying to say that it would be desirable to get a reliable income stream fo rserver.

While this holds true, I firmly believe the majority of the donators do it because they are having fun and can justify it. I have and will always love this game and what it has done for the classic EQ community, but I sometimes, begin to find it difficult to justify a $129/month bill as the fun factor begins to dissipate due to things like tier congestion, etc. So while it's not a sole factor it can sometimes weigh heavily on your decisions if you're not having fun, which is why people come here to begin with.
Why not just fork this into the server costs and start a donation drive?
hey guys, 4-10 of you 250 consistent players will have to donate or find a new game to play
well he can pass the costs of the server onto the server or we can just deal with one less zone server, that is if he decides he doesn't want to pay for it anymore. it's not blackmail if it's reasonable to ask payment for it.

Is it very hard to become a temporary Platinum donator and the go back to Gold after a couple months?
Money is good now, lots of overtime (which is bad too because that means less playtime), but the overtime wont last forever.

Just a matter of canceling (NOT CHARGING BACK) a platinum subscription, and starting a gold one, and sending your donation email when you make the change.
Your reading comprehension sucks or you're deliberately taking what I said out of context. I never claimed the server owed anyone anything. I choose my words carefully; you should too.

A better silver reward might nab some more newbie donators. The jackolantern jobby is cool and all, and should stay. However that's not to say that there couldn't be a choice. Perhaps a shifting item with more illusions on it (turn in to npc x to shift it, they give options, as clickshifting wouldn't work with it being a clicky and worn would be pretty drawbacky). Silver get a certain amount of illusions unlocked, gold get more, and so on. Not overpowering, and still a toy.
There is no blackmail at all. I do it because I had a decent spare server I could us to donate to the server to help address lag and balance loading issues. I did it because I believe in our staff and the community that has been created. That itself, is the foundation of this great server, and why it continues to thrive.

I'll be honest. I donate because I enjoy the server and appreciate the work the staff puts into it. I've used my silver item maybe twice. Boots of the Golden donator, maybe three times. But I live in pocket plane. It's a tradeskiller's dream! My play time has gone way down since I started donating, but it's one of those "bills" I just pay every month.
The changing illusion item would probably be a pain, but sounds like a good idea. Skip Starbuck's for a day or two a month & donate silver.

You may have stumbled upon the intention of the worn illusion masks, post halloween, after I figure out a couple bugs (including making them ammo slot items)

I was talking to the other who said the staff should say pony or we'll close the server. That is really poor public relations. It was not meant to reflect on you or your donation. My apology if it came across the wrong way.

I have lost count of the number of people who have complained of your incoherent rants.
While we are on this topic you misread my post about a set of postings being "in good humour" meaning that they were good natured and it was not in any way commenting on the quality of the humour itself.

It's a pretty wide concensus that more "little things" for donators is a good thing and that "big things" for donators is an undesired direction for the server.
The semantic difference between "Donations or we close the server" and "Without donations, we'll be unable to keep the server" is a pretty big one. I just encourage those that are able to donate to do so. I'm a gold level donator, so I'm not asking anything I'm not doing myself.
