Vendor System

What i'm really trying to say is you must still consider the value of people's time, if a level 30 stands around for 2 hours just buying or selling they've lost something like 100pp in potential loot or whatever. If myself, who's taken the time to explore, make friends for good groups, get to 65, master a tradeskill etc. stands around for 2 hours trying to sell stuff the loss of time makes it hardly worth while even if I do manage to sell any items...

This is a valid point, admittedly. Maybe we could allow people to view the stuff being sold even if the person isn't in the zone, just as long as they are online? All you'd need to do that way is actually meet the person to make the trade, if you don't want to hang around the zone.

There would be an advantage and a use for the trade zone, and people could easily hang around there if they like the EC style marketing, but it wouldn't be necessary.

Say, something like a halfdozen "lister" npcs, you talk to one and it stores records/links of the items you're selling for X hours, and people can any of the NPCs (there would be several just to prevent a single NPC from being mobbed :p) what you're selling, then contact you if they want to buy one of the items you're listing.

My main concern is from a tradeskill point of view. Since smithed armor and weapons, jewelry items and tailored armor aren't stackable it would be impossible for me to keep 1 of every item I can sell in my bank unless storage satchels had like 20+ slots and still have room for other items in my bank. Luckily I only do smithing, but what about the people who do more then one? Also augments aren't stackable. I am all for a different system but I would like some way of being able to keep many items "in-stock" so to speak and not have to smith items on demand. Would it be possible to have a set of the existing style vendors that would only sell Player crafted items? Perhaps make it require a skill above 100 or 150 in the skill for the items which you are selling? I wouldn't mind auctioning any mob dropped loot for sure, but I could spam like nobody's business with all the Smithed items I have for sale in /auc.

Well, this is already the case for everyone who does tradeskills and does not own a vendor, you know.

Yes Sir. I understand that completely. I apologize if it sounded like I was trying to advocate keeping the existing system because I am not in anyway. I am just asking that those of us who used the vendors mainly for selling Tradeskill items be considered in the revamp. I rarely had more then 5 non-crafted items on my vendor, I just want to be able to keep items in-stock in the new system as well. Regardless of what it is. Generally I wouls say that people who do Tradeskills have more items for sell at anygiven time then most other players. And most of us who aren't level 65 with tons of cash anyways rely heavily on those sells to allow us to continue our advancement in that skill. Can the satchels be given more then 10 slots or is that a client side no-no?

No, I got your point, there's some credit to it, but I don't think making a special vendor for tradeskillers would work out. And more than 10 slots doesn't work unfortunately.

I see the problem, I'm just not sure it's solvable.

READ THE HUGE TEXT IN THE FIRST POST.

- Wiz

Is this directed at me? If so how is it relevant or helpful?

No, I edited his post because he was arguing for keeping the old vendor system in a reformed version, which the first post says explicitly not to do in this thread...

What about adding an addition to wanelo where say like.. the bottom 3-4 bags of an inventory or bank would be common knowledge that items in those slots would be what you're trying to sell.. so everyone wuold have an equal opportunity to show others what they're selling but it wouldn't completely automate things because you'd still have to get in contact with said person and haggle out a price.

oh and,

One thing ive heard alot of people (sod and live) miss is the tunnel. I'd love to see something like that start up again.

/SHOUT 2 bags at torch 2 Hail me!!

because in the tunnel it wasnt just buying and selling, there was entertainment. Mages would show off their spells, illusions went rampant, pets would be made from mobs, necros would make their pets talk, people would make fun of the hodge podge colored armor people would end up with, because back then the rage was fine plate steel being dyed. Druids had their hey day binding at the tunnel and selling themselves for PP. People would kill Sgt Slate and Shady. If you want interaction it would be the tunnel reborn. Trading went automated (aye easier but no interaction) and a big part of EQ died with it. Damn you Luclin!! Damn you!!!

Morgaine & Mareleena

Couldn't have said it better myself, RIP EC tunnel, you are definitely missed =(

STOP posting ideas on how to reform the vendor system, either come up with something to replace it with, talk about the already proposed replacements, or make a new thread.

"Make the current vendors rotate" is a reform, "Put 100 vendors in the arena that you can hire for 24 hours" is a new idea.

Someone didn't read the entire thread. :p

At any rate, I think this method gives players "the best of both worlds". It is certainly the best idea i've seen on the forums or in game that still abides by the admins "vision" for buying / selling.

You give everyone an equal chance at showcasing their items and you still keep the player involvement in selling / buying items.

And it was already proposed in this thread...

I was giving it Zhak's stamp of approval and voicing WHY I thought it was the best option that I've heard / read about.

I thought you were still talking about your own post, my bad.

Righto then!

Put 100 vendors in the arena that you can hire for 24 hours. It combines the best of PvP, buying, selling, losing your gear, and killing that bastard to get it back. Obviously this is the best choice.

Player A has browsed my goods for sale and found exactly what he was looking for. Unfortunately for him, I'm 15 mins away in a heated exp group and he is too low level to safely get to us. I'm not going to interrupt my exping for 30 mins to make a 75pp sale. Could a command be put in to teleport yourself to the trading area and then return you to your previous location with another one?

Eh, I am not so sure this would be beneficial.. people would use it as a means of transporting themselves around or getting out of a tight spot.

In essence, it would almost be like a free port neck, except better because every char on the server would have access to it without doing any work for it.

I like the arena idea, but the main question would be where would you put the arena off of?

Obivously you would want it to be somewhere accessible..add it to the teleporter list?

That would ofcourse also require a command to temp. bind yourself to a location to make sure you can actually get back :p But ofcourse, then if would still be very annoying for a person that sells a lot of stuff if he has to leave his group every few minutes!
