trouble launching game.

Crunky

Dalayan Beginner
So I followed the directions under the "Starting Guide." This is my second install of the game(using titanium), and I still can't seem to get it to launch properly. I patch with the SOD patcher, and the game launches, I see the first screen with the 5 rules and I can't get any further than that. If i press any buttons I crash to desktop.

I have the exact same issue. If anyone can shed some light on this, I would really appreciate it!

So you crash out at the EULA screen? If you don't have a mouse on it / can't move it, you will need to 'tab' to the 'accept' before hitting 'any key' (usually space). Also open your configuration .ini file (default.ini or something - theres not that many of them, you will see which it is when you open it) in the eq folder and check the the resolution is set to the same as your desktops' one. I know I crashed with any resolution bar 1680 x 1050 - and the above said resolution was not available through the built in configuration client, so you have to manually edit it.

Not sure what else may be the issue - really sounds like the game is simply thinking you are declining the EULA agreement - which is what it sounds like based on what you said too - but yeah. Weird.

Well it isn't that the game is locked up, it's that the buttons to proceed through the menus are not there. When I thought I was crashing to the desktop, I was actually clicking on the button to decline the rules. When I was finally able to click on Accept, I got to the log-in screen and still could not see any buttons, or the areas to input your account name and password. :(

I've got fully updated drivers, Win 7, Radeon 5770

Really sounds like you need to double check your eq.ini for resolution settings like the guy said above. Unless you're saying you can see the screen and the pictures and everything but there are just no buttons and all the resolution looks fine.... pics then?

Yes that's exactly what I'm saying, I can see the rules on the very first screen, but nothing to click on to proceed through them.

Then, if I randomly click and manage to hit whatever button it is to proceed to the log-in screen, I can't see anything, but if I randomly click around the area I THINK the boxes are, if I hit them with a mouse click, they appear, but only the items that I clicked on.

It happens if it's windowed or full screen. I will go into the INI and set the resolution to the same as my desktop and see if that helps. Thanks again!

Simple. No clicks.

At the EULA: Tab - Space
At the game screen: Space
At the logon screen: Name - Tab - password - Enter

(* If you played before and have the username there, you will automatically be on the password line, so you don't have to type your name or press tab. If you want to change your name, press tab once before first, and spam backspace as much as you want)

At the server screen: Enter again

Play around with that - see if it works.

Yeah but it i were in his shoes i would be annoyed just out of principal.
I would adjust the ini again and repatch. It sounds like theres an issue with using a screen resolution that your computer isnt cool with, and or maybe some graphic updating issues. We dont have too much to run with though bro ;p

No quite right, I agree, but about 2 years back, I would have been happy to get the game working by ANY means necessary (was on satellite internet - so server wouldn't accept the connection with ping over 1k)

As you can see, it's sort of a garbled mess, and no buttons :(

Going to try the eq.ini and resolution stuff!

Ok i looked in defaults.ini and holy crap, what do I change?

Did you try not using EQW ? Don't think it's compatible with win7 (though I may be wrong) ::\

I use EQW with Win7 64bit.

You may also want to change your desktop resolution, By looking at your SS it looks like you have a widescreen resolution that maybe the game is having difficulties working with. Try lowering your desktop resolution and see if that helps.

If that doesn't work, since this would appear to be a graphical issue, the game may be having problems with your video card. One thing that might work is to try using 3D Analyzer, the same program that is used to get around the Nvidia graphics bug.

Yeah I've tried both EQw and full screen, and the issue is the same.

What about non-fullscreen window without EQW? That's how I play (ie. just Alt Enter :p)

EDIT: You can ignore the above btw - I was just trying to make a very bad joke. Really at a loss as to what may be the problem - except that its a win7 issue nobody has run into before simply because win7 hasn't been around for as long ::\

I've tried all different resolutions and still getting the same problem.

I GOT IT. I had to disable any Catalyst controlled items and let the application choose. Now I get a different memory error that I will search for :)

I use windows XP SP 3

System Manufacturer: Compaq
System Model: Evo D510 SFF
BIOS: 686O2 v2.21
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz
Memory: 1528MB RAM
Page File: 381MB used, 5094MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
64 Mb card: Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller

My issue is almost the same. I get as far as the password, and once password is entered and I clik OR hit enter to continue, screen just blinks out, and the desktop kitten gives me her lovely "What's going on?" look followed by an almost silent purring.
