Tradeskill item comment/request.

First off, I just want to say that I love the way tradeskills have been implemented in SoD. The progression, the cross-skill integrated recipe chains, and the addition of mining are wonderful.

As I've been exploring and trying out these tradeskills, I have to say that my favorite concept you have is the gem-hilted mastercrafted weapons. I love that you can make weapons with stat bonuses that are fully customized to what you or your customer wants.

My suggestion/request is this: add more customizable recipes to smithing and the other tradeskills to allow the crafter to choose the stat bonuses, armor colors, or effects they want. These kinds of recipes encourage more person-to-person interaction and make a lot of roleplaying sense. A great adventurer should have equipment that is custom-made to suit his/her tastes, needs, and style. This encourages the great crafters to make items to-order, the way great crafters should make their stuff.

I have no real concept of how difficult it is to add recipes, and I'm sure that this would require quite a lot of recipes. I was just struck by how cool it is to customize the weapons I make, and I think that applying this concept to other weapons, food/drink, and smithed and sewn armors would be really neat.

This would be an *INSANE* amount of work for very little gained. I am not saying it won't happen, but I am saying that I am the only staffer working on tradeskills at the moment and I would not do it.

Tempus,

I understand. Forgive my ignorance of this kind of work, and again, thank you so much for the gemmed mastercrafted weapons that have already been implemented.

Basically, for a little further clarification.

Every Gemmed version of the item would have to be created in the item database. So take the existing number of smithed items * the number of gems. Now once you have all those items created, you have to create a recipe for each one. Then test it all for bugs etc. Not trying to beat a dead horse here, just wanted to clarify what I meant by insane.

Yeah this is kind of the reason for the double aug slot - so the stat bonuses could be totally customizable. Unfortunately to most people this either means double HP augs, double AC augs, or double Mana augs. So much for customization :/. Its a great idea, just hard to implement is all.

Thanks for giving me an idea of the scope of such an undertaking. Again, I appreciate what I have.

What about extending the gemmed weapon line beyond silver, just one or two more metals? I realize that would still involve adding like 30 recipes and items. If that's not really an option, I understand. I just think it's so cool how I can make these progressive and customizable weapons; I just wish there was more to the progression than Iron, copper, and silver.
