There's been a change of plans.

The Bearers have been looking for people with arcane knowledge to move to Athicaa to help establish it as a center of knowledge. I want you to find a place uptown and examine this guardian that thwarted the mists and protected the city. You will find it unguarded in the nearly deserted inner city, and study should be fairly easy to do without raising any questions. Your studies, along with your descent, make you perfect candidates for such "resettlement". Find a weakness; our plans will not be frustrated by this being again!

Well this clears all the confusion I had. When I read what Ayca and Jayelle said was the letter, then I read the letter given to me, and they were completely different ... I thought maybe (RPing) that Ayca and Jayelle had become corrupted or something and were delusional as to what they were reading ... hence why I was skeptical about the whole thing last night. Now that I know the text from the Letter/Orders I was given was incorrect, everything makes sense now.
