The Gnoll Shaman that would not Die

Kirin Folken

Dalayan Elder
OK so here I am down the depths of Newport sewer trying to get my shaman a nice Slime Spear of Slime Sludge Paw.

I have the room nicely clear, and pulling the spawn singling. A gnoll Shaman spawns in the Nameds spot. No biggy.. I pul him. NOw it gets intersting.. I lay into him with my paladin only to quickly get the message , his magical skin is protecting him and absorbs the blow. At this point im like... WTF he can cast rune shields? I didnt' see him do that. So I keep attacking knowing at some point the rune shield has to break. I start my debuffing with my shaman, slow, plus dots. ONly to find out that nothing will land. Keep getting resisted. The Gnoll cons only light blue to my paladin, this is very surpiseing. About 3 minutes go by with both my 18th level Paladin and 15th level Shaman Meleeing this gnoll with no damage what so ever.

5 minutes go by... The only damage I have manged to inflict on this gnoll is 1 pt 2 times. I now realize what is wrong. This gnoll has a Damage Reduction of 50pts. As my paladin can hit for a max of 51. The rooms I was pulling to then starts to spawn and I am forced to kill the room spawns while dealing with this invincable gnoll.

I sent out OOC about this unkillable gnoll. Most people think I am crazy I think. Many say send a petition about it, Some say just zone. Considering I am in the bottum of the sewers zoning is not a option as thats a long way to run and train gnolls.

Finaly a friendly 65th level Necromancer gives me a tell.. I have sadly forgotten his name. He comes down and I exscort him to the gnoll with my shaman. My paladin sitting thier just attacking the unkillable gnoll (on the plus side I siad what th heck and put on my other weapons to train.. if I couldn't kill it might as well get some skill pts)

The nerco comes down seeing its green just attacks with his pet. To his surpise and mine.. it doesn't die right away.. it took his pet a good 45 secs- minute to kill this gnoll. The nerco was very impressed, thinking it had a Ton of hps.

With the gnoll dead on the ground I thanked the necro who gated. Looting the body I found only a buckler and some copper for my troubles. All in all my paladin fought this gnoll for about 15 minutes. Thankfuly with it being light blue and my shaman meding out of combat I didn't die.

I had sent a Petition but never got a repley on it.

So thiers my tale of the Invicilable Gnoll Shaman. On the plus side after it died I did manage to get my spear I was after.

That is pretty freaking insane. I'm glad to hear that you made out in the black at the end of the day, but none the less, thats nuts. I had something similar in shrouded isle once. I was fighting one of the named ghouls in the yard. I killed one, but the other named ghoul just wouldn't die. Now, I play a Warrior / Cleric duo, and they were about 16 and 14 respectively at the time. The warrior simply could not land a hit for more than 2-3 damage, and I'd killed them before and was able to do my normal 15-28 or so. On top of that, none of the cleric's stuns/nukes would land. Even the anti-undead ones were all resisted.

It took me about 8 minutes to make him eat dirt!

It's probably some sort of error server-side, just a fluke of some sort. I wish I knew what it was :p

Intersting so I am not hte only one to face a mob like this.

While it was going on one of my friends was hoping after someone killed it, it would drop one of those high level items that have DR on them LOL.

Anyone else have a run in with the unkillable mob?

I was the necro in the story and he isnt kidding

my relic pet took about a minute of hitting that thing before i finally nuked it for 1000 for it to die it was insane

dunno what happened but it was really strange

Yes I had a similar exp in warrens a few weeks ago on my wizard, dumped all my mana doing basically full damage and it did about 2% of damage so I ended up gating out. I figured it was some sort of fluke, and shortly after that the server came down for a bit so I never /bugged it. Since then I haven't run into any unkillable mobs (about 2 weeks).

I loved the Subject line of this post, made me feel like I was going to read a short story. And I did...
These kinda things sometimes happen, I'm sure I've seen mobs with double HP, and things like that, before...

same

I had the same happen in shrouded isle. One of the mobs guarding the entrance to the house, took like 10 -15 to kill .

It then happened again up the stairs. Never had it happen again so i fugured it was a once off thing. (or twice off thing in this case).

Also had this happen in shrouded isle had a beetle with like 25k hp. hit it for normal but took like 10 min to kill

So far, I've had 7 of these today in Cyclops Gorge. My 16/20 1h weapons only generate enough dmg to get through if I crit. My bow crits are in the 200-600 range instead of 600-2k. Spell dmg is reduced about 50%. I'm getting some bow CRITS that are below my normal minimum dmg. Makes for interesting encounters wondering if the next one will die in 90 secs or take 5 mins.

I've noticed that a few times there, but generally the mobs havent had a disgusting omg amount, just a significant more than average, taking about 2x as long.

One time I banned you from the forums for posting off topic shit once too many.

I'm a clairvoyant!

Actually, I'm gonna make a rule just Rambler: You may only post if it it is COMPLETELY on topic. Failure to do so will result in your immediate banning. This only applies to Rambler for now, but I'm not averse to extending it.

I'm glad you got him zodium, because I got pretty miffed when I saw his dumbass post, good lookin out :D

To stay on topic:

Hey kiren, good to see you on again...or are you just killing time while your computer is fixed  ? Good thing you have that trusty shafrog in your pocket or you might have bit the dust over some ridiculous circumstances. I do wonder if its a bug though...maybe it's just the undercon of the century....the ice giants are getting jealous.
