Also if you really want to get good data for dps rankings, spawn a few different dummies in Arena or GFay or something and let the players give you solid baseline dps numbers in the controlled environment you proposed in the OP.

I've seen a few staff mention in other places that they think certain classes might need their dps nerfed and I disagree. There's nothing currently happening that's really out of line like the ranger runic2 used to be for example. T12+ fights are pretty tightly balanced and nothing at the upper tiers is anywhere near trivial with current dps levels so it seems like helping the classes that are lacking would make a lot more sense than trying to bring everyone else down to their level and messing with content difficulty as a result.

Disagree here. Mages are stupid powerful on Taeshlin 2.0 because it is a long fight and they can keep their runic 1 pets up for the full duration of the fight (2k+ DPS resulting in a pretty disgusting gap between the rest of DPS).
 
That is also just 1 fight, an we don't move while other fights that have ae's hitting pets or movement out dps drops a ton due to super long cast times on nukes. Other fights are different and I think overall majority of the dps classes are fairly balanced.
 
I think my post might have scared some people off of this topic. As Susvain says I agree most classes are all on par with DPS. Though different fights will make some DPS less desirable due to mechanics.
 
The DPS Ranking idea is stupid and makes no sense. Every fight is different. Every class brings a different skillset to a fight.

Wizards are the best class on Xi Valla
Magicians are the best class on Taeshlin 2
Rangers are the best class on Blazewind
Beastlords are the best class on Forest Gloom
Rogues are the best class on Rujik
Necros (and most ranged) are the best on Sharn`ree
Monks (and other tanky dps) are the best on NZ and other fights with adds (Taeshlin etc)
Bards bring massive raid dps, rangers can heal (especially useful in 6 mans), Beastlords can heal and add massive raid dps

for tanks, SKs excel on fights where picking up adds and building threat quickly is important, as well as helping DPS. Warriors are best on long fights, especially if its one where the raid has to split off occasionally so the warrior can tank with a shield. Paladins are middle of the road, but with r2 their ability to self heal and their group hot is amazing.

Personally, I like it that every class has their use and no one class is "useless"

this aint WoW, every fight has certain classes that excel, and certain classes that require certain roles to be filled. To take it a step further, there's about four fights in the entire game where DPS is strictly the reason between winning and losing.
