You misunderstand why I posted this question.
People who do not read the boards (which is many) do not know what adepts are. They do not know adepts exist. I would not care about this save for one fact: I need them to know to fight them myself. Well, technically I guess I could try to solo them, but I want a reasonable chance at winning, so I need at least 8 or like 9 other people =p
*They* do not know what an adept is. So *I* spend an inordinate amount of time trying to find / teach / recruit *them* Yes, I am selfish. Selfish with my time = /
Agreeing to rules before fighting them or something won't solve the problem of teaching people about them about them so they even WANT to fight them in the first place. I trust this is less of a problem the higher you go in level. And I guess the more people that get taught on a one-to-one basis also theoretically makes it less of a problem. But I don't want to be the one teaching every 4-th or 5-th mid-level player I talk to anymore = ( That's a sucky proposition (well why don't you just TEACH the newbs one at a time? Well I guess I coooould. But I'm not going to =p)
I was hoping someone might have thought of a magic way to teach people about adepts other than saying "go read the boards." People don't do that unless they have to or really want to, because there are 1000 things to read here that are different from Live already. That's like someone asking "so, why does sunlight make things warm mister?" and you very helpfully giving them a physics book and saying RTFM, newb. In this case, they don't even know the sun exists =p And in this case, I need them to help my with my physics group project, darn it!!!
Ok. I'm done with the school analogy now ; )
Meh. There probably isn't an easy way to do it. I just wanted to ask around just in case someone else is working on a different wavelength here...
EDIT: actually, that NPC idea isn't horrible. I'd be willing to entertain the notion at least. Maybe if there was a low-level quest (or quests, in different starting cities) that had an old NPC or something he could tell a story about how he defeated SomeAdeptX when he was younger, and go into the mechanics of adepts some, and saying adepts being the stronger specimens of their kind generally amass more treasures than the lesser specimens. It might require mixing out of game info inside the game, which might be a totally off-limits idea though (I don't know how you could fluidly explain mechanics like "you need to be below a certain level to fight them" in an in-game way... although I'd theoretically be willing to give doing so a decent shot).
Cool, thanks for the input = )
I think people NOT knowing about something as cool as adepts isn't the best either. To me at least, they are something that deserve to be - literally - *showcased* because the idea is SO MUCH COOLER than any similar idea from Live (or any other game I've played, actually). Any other really cool SoD things that could be introduced to newbs in-game I think would be a nice thing to have. I'm not saying there probably aren't more important things to be done, but micro-tutorials on things that show "oh cool, look at this neat thing - glad I found out about it" would be nice to have.
