SoD's Official Stance on "Camping?"

Usually this is not an issue, but does become one when higher level players decide to dominate an area to farm faction or quest drops, in areas that are long since trivial to them, and where younger players should / would go to level up. Good examples of this are Blackburrow and the Bandit camps in WBL / NBL.

Is it ok for higher level players to stake out camps, and tell younger (or any level players for that matter) to "get lost?" Or is camping not a recognized practice in Shards of Dalaya?

To be honest, even if camping was illegal, I would still go about my business and take my character elsewhere, rather than fight for spawns with a confrontational, rude player. It just is not worth the anxiety it causes when I am trying to relax and have fun.

Still, I thought maybe if I asked this question at the forum, the response could raise the awareness of the SoD public that is maybe newer then some, and has neglected to read the rules in full. Is camping areas condoned? Or frowned upon?

Thanks.

Hold your ground and you shall lose it
We do not recognize camps in any shape or form. "Rights" to a mob in the eyes of the staff belongs to whoever engaged it first. Anything beyond this very simple rule is for players to settle.

I make it a habit of leaving an area when someone can actually xp there, just respect for fellow players.

In comparison to live you will find very very little of this. Most higher lvls will do their best to accomodate newer players.

What I tend to do is a /w every so often, when I see a group of lower levels coming in I'll shoot a /tell and ask them if they xp'ing. If so then I shuffle off to other places (usually after summoning a load of mage-goodies for them :toot:)

i don't usually make it a habit to camp things like that. i camp hg's because it's usually the only way to make money i have available to me. those who know me know that i don't usually manage to win randoms, and i never loot on my own, i keep far too busy healing or medding to worry about picking up the litter.

quest mobs i like to hit when i'm at a level for that quest, i don't make a habit of doing my recommended lvl20 quests after i've made that character lvl60.

i don't usually faction, but when i do, i faction off the highest lvl mobs that can earn me my desired faction, so that i can also, possibly, make some money/exp too.

when i do camp something that's a bit low for me, and someone bothers to ask me for it when they are at a low enough level that it'd earn more benefits for them, i move on, or split the spawns if it's a large enough camp for it. i've only run into this twice so far, people usually don't seem to bother asking me. maybe i'm managing to camp things appropriate to my level a bit better, or maybe they're afraid i'll do like other people and throw fits... i don't know, i just know that people don't often compete with me.

I agree, there is very little camping taking place in SoD. Its such a wonderful community, almost utopia-esque!

It makes the few people who don't respect others, and are selfish, stand out.

I wish there was a way to 'protect' your camp without getting banned. Sense 'camps' arent recognised and it's up to the players to duke it out, I wish there was a way to get your 'camp' back w/o training mobs on them, and getting banned.

This problem has reared it's ugly head on a very common basis. I have had to move, or log out, of my favorite solo spots on multiple occations because two guilds (they know who they are) keep showing up, and killing the mobs I was killing for exp. Mainly in Kedge, but other solo spots as well :(

Have you tried communicating?

I can see Kedge being camped a lot as the water is needed for the high level tradeskills, I agree with Liam tho, if you send a tell to someone in the group asking if you can xp there decent folks won't have a problem with moving out. I've had similar situations happen to me on a number of occasions.

Communication only works when the people you're trying to talk to give a shit about anything you try to say. Usually the people willing to walk in and take over an area you're already in aren't open to talking.

Although the problem isn't limited to two guilds.

...All I know is when I was low level and still good getting XP from HG's, the higher level would steamroll me, and now that I am higher level the lower levels start screaming murder in /shout, harass me, and send me tells telling me "not to go anywhere near HG because they are camped" if I dare as much as showing up in /who int he same zone as HG's. Only good time for me to get some plat is at 3 a.m., having a full time job and all, that equals to, basically, never.

To those, I offer a big, heartfelt FU not only for busting my chops even when I am just porting some dude in or out of OSM, but also for keeping me from farming some quick cash to buy my very expensive cleric spells. :toot:

And yeah, there are no CAMPS, here.

No Liam....of course I didnt communicate. That wouldnt even cross my mind...

/sarcasm off

Communication means jack and shit with these two guilds. They're probably not who you think, either. These are mid level guilds, not some 'us vrs the elites' arguement. I wish there was a way to retaliate without being banned, for THAT thought has crossed my mind, but I will never entertain it.

It is quite annoying when I am simply passing through a zone, such as OSM, people often times send me a tell asking if I am going for giants or whatever camp. I simply tell them no, or that im just passing through and I usually get a reply of "Good, it's camped". Makes me just want to go kill their mobs when they talk to me like that.

Why would that high level noob need or wish to farm gnoll ears and bandit heads any more than necessary, even if for alts? From what I recall, one may only hand in a few to raise faction so very little. They are better off performering the other quests, ex. crops, liodoth heads, Gravix's head, FP, and orc ears.

When it came to pp giants, if most are up, they're FFA in my book as the "camper" either just started or kills them slower than their repop cycle and must med/ rest long. Depending on which zone and the lvl of the individual/ group, I either leave or kill 1 or so.

Why? I cannot answer that, tbh. Maybe drop rates? I dont know.

Maybe they're actualy farming the named there for a twink?

Iirc and its been a while I always kinda went by the "is this person/s a dick?" method. Thankfully enough I never encountered a even an average amount of them on sod but make no mistake there were a few, though I havent been around in a while so its not like im even current. The standard camps seem to be pretty well laid out and understood really, the only ones ive even seen a modicum of competition on are the osm hg's, gravnix, the ig's lower levs mostly and 50ish tanks like to hit them from what i remember as well, oh and sometimes the island giants, though not often as its a pretty damm boring camp, and out of the way..As for some of the ones mentioned, I rarely ever saw people in freeport, hell it stands empty probably 70% of the time at least...and well...thats the only place I can even think of at the moment...and probably not worth camping anyways lol.. Oh and some parts of the plaguelands, though people there isnt too common either.

That being said there are plenty of instances where I've just walked through a given area and lower levels were bitching about it lol. How I personally react generally depends on what mood I'm in really, from incredulousness "umm...if I wanted to clear BB....it'd be clear by now.", exposition "just passin through", to (after a substantial amount of badgering) scorched earth, i.e. pbing everything in my general vicinity as I waltz through. My favorite to this day though happened during an assist on recluso for a friend. Got tremendous amounts of bitching from some lowbies for even walking into the damm zone. After explaining our purpose there, and explaining "you would die where we're heading to" I said fine, and let them into the basement they were so keen to get into. Then I stepped over the corpses and killed recluso :D.

@purefyre gnoll ears and bandit heads were turnins until you're ally from when I did it a few months ago.

the other day, i was camped out at island giant camp, and there was an unengaged island giant at the corner of the island. I'm not a tracking class, i didn't even think to check and see if someoen else was there, i simply saw a giant, killed it, end of story. Then some idiot level 60 druid walks over from the other side of the island and says, *next time, ask first* ....

...

...

You see, normally, I wouldn't jack someone's camp, even if there aren't *camps* in SoD. i know that a level 60 druid can handle killing 3 of those in the time they repop, no problem, so i'd let them, and i'd move along. But after the only interaction i got from the kid was a command to ask his permission before i kill a mob thats no where near him.... I decided that i didn't give a damn about him after that point, and proceeded to kill all the mobs on the island, engaging them with 1.5 second cast time spells while he was casting 4second spells....

People sometimes act as if the non-camp policy in SoD is facilitating abuse. Truth of the matter is, unless you have the interpersonal skills of a dead monkey, it makes for a much friendlier environment for everyone. Unless someone is terribly abusive, I'll respond in kind to how they're acting. Start out by treating me as your subject to command, and I'll do the same. Start out by asking kindly for a favor, and i'll kindly do you a favor.

Aaubert, you were wrong in that instance.

Though there are no Gm-recognised camps, the community generally feels otherwise. You came in and took one of his mobs. You admittidly made the mistake of not checking if they're camped. The guy gets a bit pissed off, so what do you do? You steal every singe mob he had.

So what if he was a bit snippy, you were stealing his camp. Thankfully it was only a druid.

Way to go, you showed me that you can act like a dick.

The community generally feels that you cannot "camp" giants, actually. Just about everything else is respected by most players, but giants are FFA. Guild leaders do not want to hear about it anymore.

It basically comes down to you cannot trust anyone's word when it comes to the giants. You can leave the zone, gate back when you get bored an hour later, kill 4 of 5 giants, and graciously offer to leave the area to the wizard who killed the 5th, who will respond "Good, I have only been here two hours."

The island giants are a little more campable, because they are higher level and more remote.

The ice giants you can consider camped, as the 7 static spawns are tightly confined and a spawn pattern can be defined. Still, if you leave them up for a few minutes, people will come get them.
