SoD character blog to create some atmosphere

I've always been jealous of Tipa's West Karana blog. It gives quite a good impression of the atmosphere of various MMOs (EQ, EQ2, Wizard 101 (?), LOTRO, Chronicles of Spellborn). I wouldn't have known Spellborn if I hadn't read about it at Tipa's.

So in the spirit of West Karana, I decided to create a little character diary blog. It's nothing fancy. Don't expect extremely creative writing (beyond removing typos) and don't expect strict in-character acting :)

I know that my characters will be noobs until, say, 2010, but I hope that the blog can give non-players an idea of what SoD feels like, and especially what the differences to The Game are. Heck, reading about magical faraway places like the Newport Sewers even makes me want to go there. And I've just been!

Now I just have to find out how to properly pull up the gamma on those screenshots, as the client always relies on the graphics card for hardware-based gamma correction, but screenshots are raw video memory dumps, so they're all too dark :(

Let me know what you think, flame ahead, troll around etc.

If anybody flames you, I say keep doing it anyway. Seems like a fun idea to me, I might even keep tabs just to see how others are doing (and not just the ones after my raid targets)

I think this is really cool. Need help with getting that Antique armor? I've got all the droppable stuff you'll need for the quest on my bard, and the rest of the quest is a breeze!

Get ahold of me in game or PM me here, character name is Maltornial

Thanks a lot for the feedback. And thanks a ton for all the help, gakule! Watch for a posting about it soon :)

This is really quite fun. I enjoyed reading your reactions to the game.

Will definitely keep reading new posts.

I really like it, very well done.
Took me right back to my Blackburrow days.
Keep it up, I'll be reading frequently.

Wow, today Tipa linked the blog from West Karana :) That's a really unexpected surprise.

Waldoff and everyone: Thanks! I'll be writing a bit more about game mechanics and game observations in between diary entries. I already have two or three posts sketched, but I think I need to spend a bit more time in the game to see if my observations are true ;)

hynch: Very cool! I subscribed :)

I am really enjoying this trend. I think something will be called for when you level up a bit more for promoting the server.

There is no way I am doing anything in the interim to mess up your newbie experiance :hmpf: I am enjoying reading about it too much.

Which reminds me stop showing the man with platinum! Put it in a trust fund

Very nice work. I see some Fame points coming your way. I look forward to reading about further adventures.

@Gawain: I agree, she did make it sound a bit suspicious :( But all in all it came off positive anyway.

@Waldoff: Wow, I don't know what to say! I'll be looking forward to a surprise at some point :D

Thanks again everyone, from both of us! By the way, my girlfriend hasn't played any MMOs at all before SoD, and we just discussed that she would also post on the blog from her perspective (or about Ayba, her druid). That will hopefully be interesting too :)
