Smarter R1 pets (mage)

The R1 pet's dps comes from its spells. Could the R1 pet please stop running into melee distance to be WW'd down? It is kind of frustrating.

I realize that the MAG R1 pet is classed as a swarm pet, but I've wondered before if SoD might be due for a new custom command along the lines of /cmd pet caster in order to put a (non-swarm) pet into "caster mode". This mode would effectively deactivate the pet's urge to run into melee range of any new enemy it aggros. Instead, the pet would respond to /pet attack and the like by casting its DDs/DoTs at the same rate its AI normally would cast them anyway. Caster mode would initiate melee only if an enemy happens to get within melee range of the pet for one reason or another. Not sure if this would be viable from a coding/AI standpoint. Also not sure if this would unbalance things in any way and therefore not be desirable to the staff.

By the way, how is it that the NEC caster pets seem to achieve what speakeroo is asking? It doesn't seem to move about when it does its thing. Is it technically coded as a familiar? Or maybe it does go into melee range and I just ought to pay better attention to Shuks, Enasc, and Wegas in the future! :psyduck:

I like the way the pet currently is if you do not want your pet to get ww to death don't cast at that phase. There are fights in this game where pets can mess up a raid if they hit mob x. Be a better button pusher or make swarm pets untarhetable by npc and spells.

Thank you for your constructive comment. But, because you like it as it is does not negate my argument. R1 is basically a summoned wizard/mage hybrid, it does not make sense for it to be meleeing, or even in melee range.

It does wield a ragecaller after all...

I forget he has that wep. Has any mage actually parsed how much melee dmg the R1 pet does? I can't imagine it is that much, because he is always casting from what I can tell.

Also, this new forum outlay is, is different.
