Revisiting downtime

Yeah, the time investment is what makes it a pain. SOD is a game about time investment, like it or not, and the only way to make a failure noticeable to the player is by making it cost time. This is part of why people like SOD - failure and death has actual consequenses - and I think you would find that if wiping and dying in general was to be reduced to a minimal time investment, nobody would have any incentive to do fights right anymore, it would be much easier to just zerg every five minutes.

Is it possible to code encounters so that characters can only engage them in combat a certain amount of times per day? You could remove the death effects in raid zones with raid encounters, and have less downtime but just as much--if not more--incentive to do fights correctly.

Idea stolen from WoW

I think the med % idea is good...I like the idea of rezzing dispelling death fatigue as well, or the idea of rezzing not returning you to 0 mana...any one of these ideas alone would be a nice change to help smooth things a bit.

The biggest reason this is on the collective TU mind atm is because we've spent most of the year beta testing content. "Guild A engages X mob and gets better and wipes less" is all fine and dandy, but with the new content it's been "Guild A engages X mob today, wipes out a strat, loots, then hears 'That was broken, whoops' then engages the mob on the next pop and it's time to wipe out a completely new strat.....wipe, scoop loots...OH that was still broken!" Etc. Essentially meaning that instead of beta testing 1 zone with 8 bosses, it's suddenly 1 zone with essentially 16 or 32 or 64 completely different encounters to wipe and wipe and wipe to...and not because of strat execution mistakes, but because the encounters keep changing as they are fine tuned.

Looking at the wiping process as closely as we have been, and considering the impact some of the proposed changes would have on the server as a whole, it doesn't seem out of line at all to ask for a tweak. When DF was created, who could have forseen that one day there would be mana-monsters like Nwaij to contend with? In comparison, in the time it takes the raid's casters to be ready for another attempt after a wipe, my melee toons have recovered from exaustion and completely recovered all of their stamina, done their self-buff clickies, spammed call-to-battle until one more click means being removed from the raid, and have been running in circles and using clickies to turn everything in sight into wood elves, and filled the ML's bags with summoned daggers (and have done it enough to know how many clicks until a stack pops up on their cursor and you're busted).

We recovered so quickly last night after each attempt that I can already feel my body starting to atrophy :(
