Problems with windowed mode and dual monitors.

I've been having some pretty strange performance issues the last few nights while trying to get both of my monitors (both powered by different cards) to run properly. It just doesn't make sense; I was using both monitors about 3 days ago, and aside from having to turn up the brightness while the game was in windowed mode, the performance was perfect. But now, for some unknown reason, whenever I try to run even one client in windowed mode, the performance is terrible. I've checked all of my graphics settings and everything is exactly the same. It's really driving me nuts. The only way it's really even playable now is when I'm running one client in full screen mode. Also, I think it's worth noting, that my chat text seems to be jumbled up too, meaning that some of the sentences appear to be smooshed together with the ones below them. Not to mention, the letter "o" is really distorted.

I just can't figure out what to do and it's driving me nuts. Maybe if it made any sense I wouldn't be having such a problem with it, but nothing has changed since I played the other day so I don't know what else to do. I need to be able to dual box; that's pretty much a requirement.

So in short, do any of you know of what might be causing a performance decreases in windowed mode, as well as distorted letters in the chat window? I'm sure the two are linked.

In case any of you are curious, my vids cards are - a geforce 5500 (yeah, it's an ancient card, but I was using it because my main 8500GT was giving me hell in first person view), and an 8500GT for my alt monitor (I know the 8500GTs have probs, but it works well enough as long as I'm not going into first person, which I don't do on my alt character anyway). Like I said, neither were giving me a prob the other day, but now it's pretty much unplayable - horrible lag, and incredibly dark (almost impossible to see 10 feets in front of me).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

My brother Finkk has issues boxing on his laptop, it gets real laggy. What he does is actually lowers Windows Resolution and color to like, '800x600' and '16 bit'. Try that out and see if it works then.
As for the distortion in the chat, I have no idea what could be causing that. See if changing the types of font in alt+o does anything for you though.

The distortion comes from running EQ at desktop (or higher) resolution in a window. To prevent creating a window so large that it can't be clicked on, EQ is scaled down slightly so that a reasonably sized window can host it. The scaling is accomplished by removing lines at regular intervals, and this distorts any text which happens to be spanning a removed line.

The darkness probably comes from running the client in windowed mode, if you just Alt+Enter down to a window, I believe the in-game gamma is lost. Are you using EQW? That should effectively emulate "full screen" in a window.

I would suggest running each client in EQW at one notch below the desktop size. If desktop 1 is 1680x1050, run EQ on that desktop at 1440x900, not 1680x1050. Unless you don't mind the loss of lines, but lower resolution(s) may also increase performance a little bit.

Well, if looks like it runs well with EQW enabled, but I'm not able to make the window as large as I'd like. That's the reason I was using the alt - enter windowed mode. I tried adjusting the resolution in the options mode, but it's still way smaller than I'd like (I'm using 1024x768 for my desktop, and 800x600 for the game).

Thanks for the help guys :).

Edit: Ah nevermind, I think I got it now.

Has anyone ever had an issue where if one of your characters zones, the mouse won't move or click on the one that isn't zoning until the first is done zoning?

Not sure if we have the same issue here, but I get around this by hitting autorun and releasing the mouse just prior to reaching the zone line. That way I can switch windows before getting mouselocked.

I run dual monitor display from a single video card, though, so I probably won't be of any help troubleshooting that issue.
