Pets don't use armor properly and other wierdness...

I just ran some tests using EQ-Companion and it seems that in certain cases summoned/charmed pets do not gain any benefit from haste on items. I tested the mage summoned ring (26% haste iirc) on both summoned and charmed pets and a Vest of Intangible Speed (20% haste) on a charmed pet only. In none of these cases did the delay on the attacks change as it did when I used haste spells. Is this how it is meant to be? If yes, then what characteristics of equipment are pets actually able to take advantage of?

While messing around with haste spells I noticed something else: Charmed pets appear to gain only half the nominal amount of haste from spells. For example Celerity (50%) will indeed do 50% on a summoned pet, but only 25% on a charmed pet. Is this the way it's meant to be?

For the charmed pet yes it is intended from what I remember (I remember something like that along with limit of number of attacks for pets to 2 or something).
I'm curious about the answer about the haste rings on summoned pet though.

Er, I meant the charmed pet thing, sorry. Haste rings SHOULD work, I'll take a look if they're not.

yeah I always put them on tacotown, but never seemed to make any noticeable difference, I've heard the same wondering from most other mages as well.

I had a shaman friend who showed me that his wolf pet gained no HP benefit from Aegolism. He did this by having his pet unbuffed at 100%, then after a fight it would be at X% he would then heal from X to 100% and it showed the # of HP and you would then do the math and figure out the full Hp of the pet. He then did the same test after pet had aegolism and figured the same thing and it had not changed the pets HP.

Are the HP from aego not affecting pets as well?

i thought it was posted that pets were not supposed to gain hps from anything other than AA or focus items, but i can not find it.
it is on the wiki tho
Hit point buffs will land on pets but their hit points will not be raised. If the HP buff has any other effect, it will land.

Yea, pets cant gain HP except for companion health items, but they can gain AC from aego and other buffs tho.

Man, Nibbler has been simply eating all those haste rings I dutifully summoned for her? No wonder she's packed on so much weight and complains about stomach cramps.

Do pets gain benefit from bard overhaste songs beyond their cap?

Is there a way to search old patch notes?

while on the pet subject,

Pets have a fixed delay
pets have a set amount of attacks so making it wield two weapons is only good for increasing its amount of procs.

does that mean, no matter what they are using they will alway have the same DPS?
does wielding a 2hder lower it?

From my experience equipping a two-hander will have no effect on your pet other than changing the hit message from "Petname hits a MOB for 50."to "Petname slashes a MOB for 50." or "Petname crushes a MOB for 50." and giving your pet the chance to proc the two-hander's combat effect.

If you turn on pet hits and misses you'll notice that your pet always swings the same number of times per round. If your pet swings 3 times per round and you equip them with a 1hs and a 1hb you'll see the following:

"Petname slashes a MOB for 50."
"Petname crushes a MOB for 50."
"Petname slashes a MOB for 50."

If the delays on the weapons are significantly different you'll still see both weapons swing simultaneously, or you could just take Wiz's word for it.

It would also seem that the pet doesn't have to pass any skill checks - if your pet has 3 swing he simply swings 3 times each round.

I'm not sure if pet damage increases from having a high damage weapon equipped.

As far as I know, right now the only time you actually see any benefit from equipping your pet with a weapon is when the weapon has a usefull combat effect. It would also be pointless to equip a second weapon, because that would just cut into your pets swings with the first weapon.

Since this thread is up,

Do Dev's know that Giantkin buff overrides Ancient: Burnout Blaze? I was told its suppose to stack with everything, but casted it 3 times yesterday in HHK and each time it dispelled Burnout. Not that its really an annoyance, just found that interesting.

Found the bug that is preventing pet item haste from working. Should be fixed soon.
