Pet illusions.

Pure fluff.

There are alternate skins for (most?) pets kicking around the client, if I recall correctly. A spell to cause your pet to shift skins would be useless pap, but would allow for character customization and the fulfillment of pointless whims. Want your skelly to be a RED skeleton? Want your enchanter pet to look like it's wielding some gigantic sword? Okay! Go do some quest or buy this scroll thank you drive through haveaniceday.

Mages would get shafted since they already use all their pet skins and I doubt there's a usable alternative in the global memory. But if it's there, why not use it?

It could add some minor effects ala beastlord petbuffs, but why bother screwing with balance and extra spells? This is a pointless aesthetic thing, as I see it.

was my suggestion in the the fun clicky thread

have no clue about what is in SoD's gobal texture/model files, i do recall that Live had like 200 at one point.

i want gnome pets, but clickies with orcs, goblins, etc would be cool

would guess they would be able to make a clicky that was pet target only

Well Mages do that the summon monster line of spells so they do have the ability to have just about any 'type' of pet in the global model files. The problem would come about if for some reason a skin was not included in the zone files you just zoned into and now you have a funk'd up looking pet. :) Actually would probably just take on human form, possibly with arms stretched out straight too.

But yeah it would be interesting to be able to have the ability for Enchanters to perhaps cast illusion spells on someone's pet. Dont know if it is posibble to do this like the way shamans can shrink/grow pets.

Enchanters can, as far as I've noticed, cast illusions on other people's pets. I reference a time when my skeleton pet was turned into a female troll and I was angered by the now ugly model running around on my screen.

I agree that the red skeleton is a huge status symbol and shouldn't be an optional colour swap for lower level necros.

That said, I really miss the equivalent for beastlords from the old game. There were some high level focus augments you could sync up (oh god three weeks straight playing that godforsaken sand tomb with its stupid golems and its stupid sand elves and kill me now) which would reskin your pet to some really cool stuff. Off the top of my head, ogres got a black bear, iksar got a red and gold scaled wolf, barbs got some form of wolf palette swap, and for the life of me I can't remember what the trolls had. I think it was a gila monster or some kind of basilisk skin instead of the regular green croc. The spell effect was eventually removed from game when a bunch of players started whining about being forced to use a shiny new pet model to get the focus bonuses.

I'd really like some kind of vanity option for high end beastlords. I understand part of the appeal of the class is forming a unique bond with your pet by using same model/name over and over rather than randomly generated elemental or choice from a rainbow of skeletons, but I always liked the option of powering your pet up and having it take a far meaner material form. Is there any possibility of that happening, even as a ridiculously hard to get aug or relic-esque spell?

Do focus effects work in ammo slots?

Also would/could this translate to more than just beastlords?
