Paladin Aggro Thread

unfortunately we have had no actual DEV interaction in this thread aside from Zaela saying he didnt want to do anything about it.

I feel like paladins will just be overlooked again ad we're stuck being the step child of sod.

I think the class-sympathizer dev has stated previously that the tank balancing is way too broken to just fix. I suggest you pick up Zaelous Might if possible. I didn't do it for a long time because I thought the quest was too hard and dumb. Its too easy though (as long as people still kill in Yclist.) After that you can look back at this thread with a coy grin.

Unfortunately my guild cannot kill all of the mobs in spires.

There was a conversation between eisley and slaar about supreme charms in #goonsquad. Slaar was saying how you do not need supremes to be able to do rujik where eisley lives by it. Slaariel also said that if this was in fact the case then there needs to be a tier before rujik.

I feel his same logic should be applied here. There have been a few actual paladin players and people who group with paladins saying that this is an issue. I do not understand why we keep getting looked over time and time again.

If I had to guess it's due to people not wanting to back track.

Since we are discussing agro... I have a question that did not seem to have answers easily found by search...

How should tank agro generation compare to DPS class agro generation by tier and with different tiered players grouping together?

Example, my pally is tier 1-3ish. I sometimes group with my brother's monk that is tier 10-11ish (I think...) Chain casting, my pally can basically not keep agro off the monk, (which is good since the pally gets slaughtered anyway...), but is this intended to be the case? I would assume that it is, but because I spent so much time on live (which is different) I thought that I would ask. (I should have prefaced this little example by saying that the monk has a silly main hand agro generator...)

I was more wondering, in general, is this what should be seen when lower tier tanks group with higher tier dps classes?

Answering this question separately for the moment - it has always been the case that aggro management is a group effort. If a wizard unloads at the start of a fight, that wizard is going to be a smear on the ground and that's how it should be. With the DPS a monk at that level can put out, it is no wonder he is able to tank so well (especially if he has an aggro-generating weapon and uses his special monk moves that also increase aggro).

Wrong thread, but if it offends you, substitute "any non tank" for "monk" in the example.

I figured as much, but was just checking. I look forward to the day I can be on tier with the monk! ;) Thank you for the quick reply!

So is tank balance built on such a broken foundation that tearing it all down and rebuilding on more sound principles is the only solution?

If so someone should, you know, get to work on that.

If not then two things really stand out in this thread:
1) that once you get zealous might life is rainbows and watching rabbits (tastefully) hump
2) warrior/sk fixes do not require you to wait around until runic2
Also the thing about Paladins/SKs just getting crappy Cleric/Necro spells originally. Seems like a Zealous line of spells might be the money maker, it could even free up Yaulp to get more Cleric-y or something.

A whole zealous line could be beneficial, replacing the yaulp line on the pally with the zealous spells could make the class more unique that way. Though adding some aggro generation to self-heals would probably work fine, a zealous line of spells would add more flavor to the class.

I don't think aggro should be added to self heals, but only to group HoTs. I think there should be a decision that must be made between self preservation and aggro, but that being said, I think better hate generation would allow more self heals to be cast without losing a dragon's attention. An expansion of the runic 2 into an entire line of spells seems like the a good thing.

I think that the paladin line of self heals SHOULD add aggro, and yes a zealous might lower level expansion (down to lvl 25 maybe) to replace yaulp and other paladin atk/proc self buffs would make sense.
Personally I always felt that Paladins could use some of those cleric nuke heal spells as that would put them on equal terms with SKs in terms of being able to DPS/heal with one spell.

Sort of. Zealot's heals the person on the mob's agro, not the caster, so it's a minute difference. Kind of hair splitting, as it otherwise functions about the same, but that's what it does.

that's one more dev than in my thread :(

i mean i was being kind of facetious, i talk every day about how zealot's is OP while i use it at the same time =P

regardless it strikes me as odd that paladins dont have something similar.
