other servers

Last thread I was able to find on this topic was from 2003, so I thought I would check in again.

Anyone know of any of servers similar to SoD with different games? (there is no need for any other EQ basic game with SoD around) But servers that preserves the games original feel but is its own game (or maybe just preserves the old feel, either one) and has the love the SoD does?(might be hard to find love like this)

I am particularly curious about (others are fine also) Dark Age of Camelot or even Ultima Online(old graphics even, 2D sprites) as those games I always wanted to play but was too busy playing EQ.

It is easy to find some servers, but Solid servers with a passionate community and no weird changes (like MEGA bonus EXP) is hard. I was just curious if anyone else had some experience with one that they enjoyed and would share their thoughts on it.

while that does look cool, I would rather stick to playing SoD if I was going to play an EQEmu :)

If your into fps games, https://alteriw.net/ , Projected started so you could run dedicated servers vs running peer to peer games, and well hacking on mw2/black ops is terrible on the PC for steam these guys are like the SoD of CoD, and any hackers are dealt with really fast.

A few years ago, Metropolis had a kickass UO shard. I'm pretty sure it went down though. You might be able to research a bit on them and see if they started it up again.

Oh man, I miss those good times. There is no online experience quite like PKing in UO.

There's a few recent vanilla WoW servers if you're interested in that. The Rebirth is a 1-60 server with 1x leveling rates and things like fully functional Onyxia that no other emu server has afaik (also working on implementing movemaps/mob pathing which other servers don't have). Scriptcraft is also vanilla but with the options of instant level 49 at character creation and anywhere from 1x to 5x rates, so most people get 60 within a few days. Higher population than Rebirth but has more bugs and the playerbase leaves a lot to be desired. Recently flooded by reddit people so there have been login queues and such.

Having played on both servers, and having interacted with both of their lead devs, I can tell you that while gummy runs a better server at the moment, freaky is a much better dev than gummy. He just has wayyyyyyy less time. Also trying to get people to stick around on a standard 60 server is really hard.

Anyway, if you are looking for a DaOC server there is a pretty good server called Uthgard. Its mostly europeans but if you are of that persuasion its a pretty decent place to be.

Lol I did a search for "shards" at that hidden server forum, and some dude named Grey seriously has a case of SoD envy. B&

I always wanted to join or start a WoW Custom server that is as SOD is to EQ.
I want to make wow into an EQ play style similar to classic wow.

Level 60 cap and only 60
Release TBC as an expac but do not increase the level cap. Just make all mobs SKULLS
Remove Instancing from dungeons.
Retag most gear as BOE
Increase the re spawn on all dungeon mobs allow for camping a named like in EQ
Use talent system as an AA system allowing players to obtain ALL tallents
Add new classes
Change mechanics around a bit to reflect more of an EQ style play (Remove unused Skills/Condense)
Redo all encounters create new lore.

A project like this would take a long time and a great team. So I'll probably never get around to it but if any one ever wants to take me up on it I'll support.

Ya I thought about doing this too, for either the WoW or EQ2 client. But thus far it has been just a dream!

EQMac can be played on PC now with the right files. All you need is Titanium and some time to DL other required files. Quite a few SoD players started playing there now that I've noticed. Goes up to Planes of Power expansion. Good old fashioned gameplay. No map, first person view, etc..

Rough Guide to play EQMAC on PC:

1.) Create a folder in your c:\ drive called EQMac.

2.) Install a fresh copy of Titanium to EQMac.

3.) Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?0uuh08b844bgtge - and place the files contained inside c:\EQMac.

4.) Create an account at: http://launch.soe.com/lp3/index.html?ga ... =everquest - (make sure your browser doesn't block plugins) it's a webinstaller,
and it will install the actual EQ Mac game. It's a 1.9gb patch, but it downloads at roughly 2mbs~, it's really fast.

5.) Browse to c:\Program Files\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\EverQuest Mac\Contents\Resources - Hit ctrl+a and then ctrl+c to copy all of the files. Transfer them over to the c:\EQMac folder overwriting everything.

6.) Find eqclient.ini inside c:\EQMac and change the following within:
NewUI=TRUE

*if you use old models*
LoadVeliousArmorsWithLuclin=TRUE
LoadArmor17=TRUE
LoadArmor18=TRUE
LoadArmor19=TRUE
LoadArmor20=TRUE
LoadArmor21=TRUE
LoadArmor22=TRUE
LoadArmor23=TRUE

7.) In C:\EQMac, right click eqw.exe > Properties > Compatibility Settings > Check Run as Administrator > OK. - Obviously Windows XP etc. can skip this step.

8.) Click EQW and check fix eqclient.ini - press Start EQ! Enjoy!

You should fix those URLs with like TinyURL or something.

I guess the person who was hosting the small 5mb file deleted it. It's ok though, I took mine and put it on Media Fire. The link should work though.

Small tip though, for people like myself with partitions and such for organization of their computer, make sure the EQMac folder is in the root C:/ drive. Mine didn't work until I moved it there.

The server is fun and challenging, good old times. Maybe a little too hard for some. When you have to come up with strats to kill yellow cons at lvl 2 its kinda funny. Either way, it's definitely worth looking into if you want the original unspoiled EQ experience up to PoP.

P.S. You may need to install Media Fire's browser toolbar. It's a minor inconvenience really, but with Meda Upload gone it's the site I use most for file sharing. So I just deal with it.

Sorry to hear. EQMac is pretty amazing. /easymode off for sure. I really cant believe how many people I've seen on it though. Wealwawn, Kiseble, Mazi, Tarma, just to name a few. Crazy crazy.
