Open Request for Books

I have gotten some really great submissions to this.

As of now I am focusing on getting ToTarhyl ready for full release tomorrow so expect to hear back about your submitted books soon =)

awesome i can finally put my writing skills to work again. typing a 400 page book took writing a story out of me but a few short strories may be just what i need to get my motivation back.
 
Should be sending in the first one I started on sometime mid next week, just busy as hell atm, so havent had much time to finish it

Also, I've checked through other books from Main Quest and I'm seeing an average of 26 characters per line and 12 lines per page for 284 characters (including spaces) per page average. At that rate, what average book length are you looking for? 5 pages? 50? Any guidance here would be appreciated. Also, would a book of poems be acceptable?

Bard's book of songs?

I got a few medieval sounding tablatures I've been working on recently. Not exactly lore, but I think it'd make a nice addition.

Perhaps be in the 'series' as the poem books that were suggested?

Any length you like, although past about 15-25 pages I'd say it gets unwieldy. If there's a story that's longer than that, you might consider expanding it into a multi-volume set!

Acceptable types of literature:
poems
children's rhymes
fables
songs
research tomes
journals
guide books
fiction
cookbooks
religious writings
judicial/law processes
business regulations
guild (class guild, not raid guild) policies
do-it-yourself instructions

You name it, you got it, so long as:

-- the material is unique to you (not copyrighted elsewhere - I don't want Beowolf in SoD book form)
-- the material works in the roleplay world (don't put in McDonald's business regulations, make it a Silver Crown charter instead)
-- don't take liberties with lore (Baldakos used to work as a chef in lower Nagthilian and here is his cookbook?)

I'm sure there's more books or literature that I'm just not thinking of at the moment. Please feel free to be creative!!

We have already received a LOT of submissions that include journal-type self-centered writing. While some of these are good, and I'd love to see more submissions overall, we'd LOVE to see more variety in types of literature submitted, and more world- or issue- or object- centered writing.
 
A book about Zhak would be awesome. :(

Also, would books outlining the solutions of a quest be a no no? Like, say, telling a player where to get faction items and whatnot?
 
UPDATE- With Blackscale done I finally have time to put this in. Look for the first few books in the next few days!
 
Quick question- rather than recount stories of adventures and events, if there are places that are not covered by the Lore, what are the rules for working those places into it? If a zone has no previous real place in the Lore, are we free to make something up to work it in? Or would that be a submission for another place? Thanks! This is a very cool effort :)

Are submissions still being taken? Sounds like a good thing to do while I am at work and have some down time. I figure I can come up with a few journals from when we were just refugees and all started in Erudin (WR). Especially have vivid memories (nightmares?) of taking back Kelethin.
 
I have a file on my desktop called submissions that are going to all be put into an up and coming zone (that already has been started on). Bit of a delay since the library I originally planned had to be nixed but I think this will end up working nicely.


Meaning you are welcome to submit and implementation is looming near.

Yeah, I know that this is old, but I remember Zhak from when he was getting his first raiding experience on Live. I've got all sorts of fun stories he probably doesn't want to tarnish his elite reputation, but I did teach him everything he knows about being an arrogant, elitist bastard. Want I should write up the first part of his saga and have someone else take over from when he changed servers?
 
Whats the status on this? I only recently dredged this up and thought I might contribute a few small things for flavor.
 
I believe we are still taking submissions, as the NPC's who'd have these books aren't in yet. Not that that would be much of a stopping point either.
