Before going any further, I want to make it clear, I am a new player (1 week) myself, so this isn't a slam by "the elite old guard." But in the few short days I've been here, I have seen signs that the social order is fraying a bit. /ooc and /gu have become intolerable pretty quick, and I'm wondering if maybe it was just a lull for the first few days. Then again, I see that the #online record has increased by over 50% in a single month.
I have to wonder: is WR about to become a victim of its own success?
I really hope not. The first few days here, I was playing with a grin on my face (literally), because it was so much like the old days. But the last few days, I've had to shut off /ooc and /gu due to the same old, same old:
1. Whiners who think Wiz ought to program the game to suit them and have to tell everyone what's "wrong" with the game.
2. Whiners who think Wiz ought to wait on them hand & foot.
3. People whining about the game isn't exactly like EQ.
4. Folks who want to discuss religion & politics in /ooc.
5. Folks who want to discuss other games in /ooc.
6. Folks who want to complain about folks discussing other games in /ooc.
7. Folks who want to compain about folks complaining about folks discussing other games in /ooc, etc. etc.
My thoughts on this are pretty scattershot at the moment....Bringing up such an issue in EQ Live would be pretty pointless, but after seeing the innovations present in the game so far, I have to wonder if there's a solution that can implemented here (which would never be considered by SOE, may they rot in hell).
More user education?
Bannification?
More FAQs?
I can't see making access dependant on donations; huge legal issues.
But I guess the first question to ask is... "is there really a problem, or am I imagining it?"
