New to WR, and mostly new to EQ, what class?

The highest that I ever played a character to on my own in EQL was a lvl 17 shaman. I later played a shadow knight on a coworker's account. They PL'd me to 42. As such, I'm not very experienced with EQ. Anyway, I was thinking of playing a necromancer because I hear they are easy to solo. Also, I played a warlock to lvl 46 in WoW, which is similar to a necro I think. Does anyone know which classes are common and uncommon on WR? Mainly, are there too many necros?

I don't see many Paladin's. Actually, I don't see a lot of classes. Maybe it's my class bias, but I do tend to see a lot of monks. Not too many clerics though, but they're boring... I guess I don't see too many Wizards or Enchanters, either.

Honestly, you don't see a lot of classes, just because there aren't that many people, so really, wahtever you want to play, play. Necros are good at soloing, but I prefer not to group with them, as most of the time it really doesn't benefit me all that much.

Really, just play whatever you want to play, as it will be more fun that way.

You say SK's are quite rare, i see quite a few, never met a fellow warrior though. Also alot of weaps i see for sale seem to be SK only, wierd?

I don't think I've seen many paladins or shadow knights. It seems like they are kind of rare. But like Rambler says, when there's about 130 people on at a peak time there's going to be a shortage of certain classes. :) Play whatever you think will be fun.

Enchanters are probably the most rare class on WR now more so then clerics. They just aren't worth playing because they offer nothing to the person playing them and all their "enchanterish abilities" have been nerfed or curtailed to hell in the sake of "game ballance". They are relegated to raid bot now, not even needed for lazy afternoon exp groups.

Clerics are heal bots. They can't even nuke the undead better then a Magician or Wizard.

Monks are everywhere.

Warriors are only as good as the gear and aa's you throw on them and other then the "top 4" you dont really notice any.

Knight classes are now a requirement for specialty tanking, specifically ShadowKnights. They are needed and somewhat rare.

Wizards are always in demand.

Decent amount of rogues.

Shamans tend to run neck and neck with monks.

Necromancer is well represented now.

Beastlords are still kind of sparse.

The key to enjoying the game at the high end is being able to bot a much needed class for your raid or group when it's required. That's usually cleric, enchanter, or off tank. And there are plenty of people on WR, just not enough that want to play certain classes.

Hey Wiz, is there any chance that a query could be run on the database showing totals of character class types (and maybe races) played in the past week or month?

Perhaps set up on the main page so people may have a little better idea of the class and race breakdowns within WR? Maybe it just runs once a week (month?) and updates itself and posts to the main page? It might be helpful for people wanting to know "What should I make (next)?"

Just an idea. :)

Shadowknights and Warriors are both as good as the gear and AAs you put on them like everyone says. They are very nice classes and well used by the game.

If you want a decent group charactor, someone easy to solo, and someone well needed in guilds.. Start a Wizard or a Druid, nothing better then a port right when you need it. ;)

Just be prepared for nicknames like "Port Bi*$h" and other similar names. :finger:

I do see a lot of monks, although there were a lot of monks on Live, especially during Kunark. No real surprise there.

I love warriors, and have grouped with some great ones. Just wish I could group with them more.

I refuse to group with wizards.

Haven't seen all that many rogues.

Hmm, don't see all that many shamans either.

Apparently the necro at the top game as been nerfed, but yeah, there are still a fair amount of them.

Beastlords suck.

I see a fair amount of Magicians as well, probably equal to the amount of Monks that I see.

Just thought I'd give my opinion, as it differed somewhat. Give both sides perhaps?

Necro at top end game nerfed?

I'm guessing you have no idea what you're talking about, or you've been listening to people like Duma.

Refuse to group with Wizards? Apparently you've forgotten that Wizards are not just burst DPS anymore, we can sustain a decent DPS ratio. Not to mention we have that proc spell which gives you ANOTHER proc for your weapon. Oh, and porting whereever you wanna go never hurt either. The problem is, there's VERY few Wizards. When I created mine, I was maybe 1 of 3 active Wizard characters. Now there's about 6. Still not many. Anyways, your views on every class suck.

Necros and beastlords are very good now and have an equal chance of getting into a group from scratch assuming no one has been selected yet.

Wizards can definitely pump out some DPS now with their no mana nukes.

My complaint on enchanters still stands though, and there isn't anything exaggerated about it. If enchanters were so good where did 3/4 the old ones go and where are all the new players?

Here is a new "problem" with merit. The mob summon level increase helped everyone but enchanters. Anyone can go out and bow kite, DC, or power nuke a level 58 now but enchanters solo and DC ability is still limited to the fact they can't even charm a level 58 for more then 20 seconds since Boltrans Agacerie has a cap of 55. With their low power high resist nuke and plain root they are still the most ineffecient solo/dc class in the game. They can still charm some mobs and DC in dragonhorn and MielechC if they are very careful and a little lucky. I'm just pointing out the new change benefitted everyone but them.

And that's the paradox with them. The abilities the class is based around are either too powerful, too weak, or too situational, with no middle ground. And that is why they are unappealing to play as a regular character.

Sorry, that was a bit harsh on my behalf. I still don't find Wizards all that appealing, but every class has their own unique appealing abilities. To say that Enchanters are more worthless than Wizards, is to say that Monks are more worthless than Warriors. So it really comes down to personal preference. I group duo with a druid, so I get my ports from him. I've grouped with a fair amount of classes now, and found that Wizards aren't all that great.

But I will say this, a good player can make any class great. A bad player can make any class horrible. So perhaps the Wizards I have grouped with have been terrible, and some of the other classes I've grouped with have been played well.

Well said. I'm still not high enough to know anything about the more end game stuff, so right now most of my opinions/knowledge are formed around the 1-50 game.

Except you can kill a level 58 mob with a level 55 charmed mob pretty easily so saying it didn't help them is a plain lie.

I created an Erudite Necro, and I'm a little screwed atm. I chose erudite because they have the highest starting intellingence of any other necro. The problem is that I'm KOS with my own guards, and the two adjoining zones are too high for me. I'm basically relegated to grinding in the forest outside of the Erudite city until I can fight my way through the adjoining zones. I've been told that there are usually secret entrances to the cities in the EQL for people that are somewhat shady, like necros. Does such an entrance exist for the erudite city? Also, the zone connection map shows a connection to the nexus from the forest, but I couldn't find one. Is there a way to get to the nexus from the forest I'm currently in?
