New to computers and games

So quick summary-
Im new to computer games and mmos. Never played one, never really heard of them. Was never an electronic user as a kid- now that I have my own kids it seems to be what all the hype is about. Finally got my kid this Alien computer and he plays this game called Devil 3 or diego 3 or something.

I decided to get my own computer and fish around for games and had an old buddy of mine mention a game called everquest he use to play in 1998- I searched and I found!

Hello everyone my game name is Zillikinix I chose to be a dwarf Cleric- I am extremely new to this 3d world of fun! I am very much enjoying it but having a rough time with all these buttons and what not.
My mind was blown when I saw the graphics only to be quickly shot down by my kids and shown how games in 2012 looks- all I have to say about that is Oh my god! is that real???.

Anywho- always looking for friends and nice people that wouldnt mind we picking their brains.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Welcome! I always love to hear from people for who SoD is their first MMORPG.

I hope you enjoy the world. Make yourself comfortable on the forums and newbie chat. Especially if you have any questions etc.

I appreciate the quick reply and your kindness. I think it was a very good choice. If I were to play some of those 2012 games I think id lose my mind and forget about reality. I remember playing GTA for a week straight and then I got in my car and was driving around and thought to myself... "man... these are some sweet graphics."

I sware ill get that bag behind the banker 1 of these days!

He's actually a High Elf Cleric; you can check out any character on the server by name using Fomelo and you can research much of the game content on the community driven wiki. Both of these, as well as other useful links, can be found on the front page of shardsofdalaya.com. Be sure you familiarize yourself with the rules and naming policy as well, and if you have any questions when you're ingame never feel shy about asking in the guild channel for Dalaya's Beginners (the guild you start in) by typing /gu before your question. Welcome to SoD.

No. I think he is a Troll of some sort.

This page is great reading for anyone new.

Specifically:

Check out the Server Rules. Since you are new, some leeway will be afforded to you but you should definitely familiarize yourself with them.

Check out the leveling guides for some recommended zones at each level and where you are likely to find groups.

Check out the Hunting guides for specific classes and play styles.

Check out the Zone Connection Map. Traveling aroudn this world can be very hard for a new player and you will rely on this for a while.

Ah yes thank you, I think I read that wiki 2 times over while at work to familiarize myself with game and rules.

Ive been contemplating calling in sick just to play all day! =)

yes, those last 3 I must read over till I can remember- ive noticed soloing as a cleric isnt the easiest! But I will master it! I shall!

Since accounts are free (and per the rules set forth by the powers that should be) you are allowed to play on 2 characters MAX (ON 2 SEPARATE ACCOUNTS) at once. Most of us would recommend that you play a warrior or shadow knight along with your cleric as these are the most simple classes to play together IMO and probably you will find to be the most efficient. That way, you should be able to progress yourself through the early parts of this game if there are no groups to be had. Young clerics are pretty hard to solo with.

All you have to do is press alt + tab and you can switch between your characters and have them work together! A learning curve, for sure, but I know you are up to it.

Oh in deed I am, I actually started a Wizartd yesterday- someone said have a porter is helpful but I think I will do what you recommended. Warrior or Shadow Knight I will go.

Any recommendations? or personal preference.

I havent played tanks on this server but I'd probably say warrior. Paladin is also an option, but I didnt mention it because a lot of their abilities overlap with a cleric.

First off welcome. Everquest was my very first mmo back in 98 as well. Never played WoW and won't. A cleric is always in demand and a great character and wizzies are just sick dps. Not the easiest combo to start off with but if you a quick learner then it shouldnt be a problem. I wish you the best as the community for the most part is pretty good and use the wiki.

Oh yeah! I actually cycled out the Wizard for a Magician/Cleric combo- Got my friend to get the game also- hes rolling ShadowKnight-Druid- then just my other friend to play yesterday- he got a Necro/Bard- wiki is insanely helpful I find myself looking at that more then the game- must be why I got over 40 deaths before lv 10 hah.

Glad you are bringing friends! It is the best way to play through. Slowly and enjoying the content as you go imo.

I recommend playing the game with one character just to get used to how this game works and to get good at your character. I suggest starting with one of the pet classes because they tend to be a bit easier to solo. Once you are comfortable with the game, try 2 boxing.

Hah, thats what it actually boiled down too. I tried boxing but just wasnt happening, not until I remember what my spells do and which character im playing.

I am sticking with 1, sometimes Ill just get both on and have the other one sit down while I kill stuff with the more stronger one.
