New PvP server.

I've noticed a couple times a PvP server showing up, sometimes its open sometimes locked. I made a char on it and a GM made me lvl 75 and gave me some crazy weps and gear. Never found anyone to kill on it yet. Theres a #command system on it and you can summon any item in Game to your cursor lol. Needless to say it wasn't really fullfilling. Is this a PvP test server that admins are working on from SoD?
 
I think the motd was updated shortly before the current downtime

that server is not part of the SOD program and the GMs and Wiz has advised people not to play on it
 
oic. Not much chance of that. It's pretty terrible. I just was curious so I logged into it lol.

i don't remember what Wiz said, but what i gathered the way the client is coded there is nothing you can do to stop it
 
if he finds a way to combine them and possible throw in something else, he will gain my vote.

Tho havent seen a new oots yet this week :( /cry

at least i still got 2 of the books to feast on :D

I made this using the same software I make all my OotS stuff with, does that help any?

Also note that in honor of Octobeard my OotS avatar has a beard. There, I added something else.
 
Congratulations, I can only imagine how much of a frustration it must be to have someone doing that. But seriously, it's good to hear, apparently the guy who was running it is a pretty bitter dork. Just what I've heard from people who have logged in and spoken with him/her.
 
This thread was very disappointing to read was hoping on some sorta sod pvp server or modification of the current one to make pvp a bigger part of the game than it is currently as I know wiz has the brain power to make such a thing plausible if he set his mind on it.
 
Agreed which is why it would be much better to just try to integrate a more entertaining pvp system into the one you all ready have. Given how much SoD has improved the pve side of Game. I'm sure if they set there mind on it they could make pretty substantial improvements to the not so good pvp system Game has had over the years. Would it be possible to mimic a WoW battleground on SoD someway or another and if so would it be a difficult thing to try out. Game pvp could actually be pretty interesting if a good system was ever put into place especially here on SoD. Honestly I don't mind the game play on SoD one way or another, but I do think it a better pvp system could attract more players to sod as long as it was done in such a way that it doesn't interfere with pve negatively.
 
Not to mention if there was decent pvp action it would attract players that enjoy that type of gameplay. Obviously there would be ban's hand over fist of the folks that dont follow the SoD rules, but there would also be folks that enjoy PvP that adapt and flourish on a properly run pvp server. I know that anyone can go red on SoD, please dont tell me that =/

Anyways, glad you got some leech server taken care of.
 
The classes are so not balanced for pvp its not funny. Trying to make em balanced for it would knock pve outta whack horribly most likely.
 
I think personally rather than trying to get to caught up in the balance issue the first step would be to create a better suited atmosphere for it in the first place like a zone designed exclusively for pvp in mind, but it could contain pve aspects as well it just wouldn't be the primal focus behind it. One idea would be to have players choose sides via quests and have different objectives like delivery, escort, or assassination quests to be completed in a somewhat dangerous zone where you gotta worry about opposing player factions and npc factions.

There could be a mixture events going on at all times like roaming mobs and cluster mobs and perhaps up to 3 or 4 different faction sides with each being hostile to opposing sides for both the players and npcs as well as having objectives to sabotage the opposing sides.

I'm sure there could be ways to incorporate different classes and mob types to give different player and mob classes strong and weak areas.
Perhaps certain mobs ideally had to be split beside they couldn't be mezzed or rooted which of course would encourage necro, sk, or monks for those spots. Some mobs could be a mixture of class types enchanters, sks, necros, mages, shamans, clerics, ect...and some spots would have clusters of mobs. There could be traps that trigger stuff like multiple semi weak yet annoying mobs.

There's lots that could be done to somewhat offset class balancing issues for pvp I think in perspective without even altering the classes themselves any, but of course those things could likely be tweaked to try and keep things at least within level playing field overall somehow or another. From what I hear the biggest current problem with pvp on sod is spells do full damage in pvp where as on live they were altered to do only a % of dmg to players in pvp.

Anyways this is really all just a hypothetical idea I have no idea if it's plausible or not in reality all tho I'd think it could be done somehow.
