Asking for wiz too post when the server back up is not asking for an ETA. Maybe if you would read someones post instead of jumping into correct someone you would have seen that. Granted he should have seen that wiz did post when the server was back up before. It is much easier too check the forum than log all the way into eq everytime you want to check.
 
I see I might have misinterpreted the post. At first I read it as a lightly mangled request to post when the server will be up (ETA: as in, "tell us when you plan the server to be up"). Sorry about that, I apologize for the misunderstanding.
 
Wiz and cie aren't paid to maintain SoD. They're already putting in a lot of efforts into it, I don't think it's fair to ask them to stay up all night to patch stuff.
 
Although its my first night to try and play on this server so I'm excited, I like that the admins here have the determination to finish their project =) Thanks for letting us know whats up, hope your work goes smoothly =) I can't wait to play when it is back.

Technically, you asked a question and I answered with my opinion on the matter. It could also be interpreted as a suggestion instead of a question, but in both cases I would have posted the same thing. I'm wondering what you found offensive in it?
 
I, just find offence in people who are quick to jump on a cross for people who can defend themselves :/

If you would do what you recommend, namely read what is written in this thread, you'd know that it's even easier to look in IRC. Link is on the mainpage or just scroll back to mourningfires post. /wave bran :D
 
im new to playing and was just curious if the server goes down all the time or just recently due to patching, it came down at around 4:20 am and it seemed as though everyone was prepared for it. And just curious (not asking for an ETA) how long are these patches normally take, or does it just vary to a little to a lot? Thanks for the info
 
Is there a program I can install that will alert me when the server comes back up? I know they have them for live servers, but would they work for SoD?
 
Don't think it would work, but if you log in on the IRC channel it will say when the server comes up. Link is on SOD main page.

There's a scheduled patch every Wednesday at noon Eastern time (per the sticky), but other than that the server is usually up the vast majority of the time. Most of the other downtime are just quick reboots every once in a while to fix things when the server gets itself confused. The Wednesday patches are usually finished by the time I get home around 9 eastern (probably much earlier, but I'm not around to know).

The past couple days it seems Wiz has needed the CPU time on the servers to work on the new pathing they are adding, something that is much needed and will make play much better (e.g. no more mobs running away thru walls). This is the first time since I've been playing (since the fall of last year?) that this has been necessary, so it's not a regular occurance.

Most patches are fairly quick... But he isnt working on a patch right now. He is working on pathing for the npcs. The server will be back up when it is up, but we all hope it is up fairly soon
