Up to this point i've killed every adept up to lvl 35 - my knowledge of difficulty and uniqueness of adepts is more then up to par. Today, we attempted the Maggot-Infested Corpse. We actually tried 5+ times, improving the stratagie each time, unfortunatly we wernt able to kill the mob, and our best attempt only brought the mob down to 60%. Our group consisted of 6 healers, 5 meelees, and 1 casters. Most other adepts we killed with a group of 10 people, and the main thing we lacked was healers. This time was different, we had both the meelee end and the healing end well covered and we would have clobbered any other adept with this group. Not to mention our tank was incredibly well geared, something that would be near impossible for new players to the server to obtain. Only thing i could see us doing wrong was our stratagie was wrong, unfortunatly after a near perfect execution of our stratagie twice, the mob only took 15% and 40% damage respectively. This led me to beleive the mob is still to strong for 12 players after the rebalancing.
The mob charms 3 people and then is done, leaving only his AE and meelee abilities. Furthermore he charms whoever is highest on his agro list. So what we did was have our initial person pull w/ a shovel as his weapon (only is 1 dmg), so when he turns on us, he isnt hitting for any damage. All other classes reduce their damage in same way (not as good weps or only 1 wep in hand), and then agro mob, so when they are charmed they arnt doing dmg either, but still hold a little agro to prevent healers from getting too much agro. All this time healers are just keeping people alive. Third person charmed does the same thing, I was the thirdperson to get charmed and i was a tank. I had only my offhand slot equipped w/ a basic sword, and used my style to lose offhand attack but gain defense as soon as I saw him casting charm. We executed this near flawlessly, no one died and as soon as he charmed 3rd person (me), everyone equipped their good weapons and started DPS. Shortly after they were DPSing, my charm broke and I equipped my weapons, taunted, and began tanking. Shaman landed a slow at this point. At this point, the adepts major offensive abilities had been neutralized (no more charming us against eachother, and slowed) all except for his AE. The AE appeared to be conical, and i quickly positioned myself so that it was facing me and everyone else was attacking from behind/sides. At this point, everything that could have been done was done. Unfortunatly 6 dps classes and 6 healers were not able to finish him off even when we had his arm twisted behind his back. Furthermore, on our last attempt, when we executed the strat exceptionally and brought the mob to 60%, Tink was sitting there watching us.
There are 2 reasons i can see that could make this mob still overpowered after the adept rebalancing to 12 people. One is 3 charms significantly disadvantegoues a group of 12 people. I'm not sure how many times it charmed before, but 3 charms gave the mob atleast 20 seconds of free damage on us... 20 seconds of unslowed damage that is (we had our first puller 2 pullers be beastlords in order to attempt slows on the mob from the start, not sure if they landed or not, but if they did then that only supports my opinion). By the time the 3rd charm breaks, the mob has already had numerous attack rounds on us and has hit us with atleast 2 AE's, and we cant do anything about it but take the damage. If we equipped weapons then we had both the mob and a player attacking our main tank, which the healers would not be able to compensate the 300 pt dd, the mob meelee hitting for over 100, and the player. And even if they could compensate the dmg, they would over agro and there goes a healer. 3 charms is too much for how hard this guy dps's. 2 Would be more reasonable.
The second reason is the combination of the 300 pt dd and the mob hitting for 100+. Before the rebalancing i believe the mob's AE dd was still 300 pts (wiki), to a group of 18+ 300 pts is less significant b/c that means u can have more healers healing a single tank. Once the mob is neutralized the AE will only be hitting 1 - 3 people, so against 18 people that means 50% more healers can be had for the same amount of dmg taken. My suggestion would be to half the AE dmg to 150.
These 2 suggestions should make the mob weaker but i still think with 2 charms, his AE, and and high meelee dmg that he would remain as the significantly hardest adept to this point. To make him more in line w/ sandjaw and the haunted treant i'd say a 100 ae, max hit 90-100, and charm 1 or 2 players. I think the later suggestion makes him feasible to newer players to the server, but the prior makes him feasible for raiding type players w/ decent-good gear and a solid group.
I'd also like to note that w/ the same group we took down the lvl 36 engage tarx the stormfeather adept w/o a single death (didnt get to try redmaw though).
