Awardis really doing 500 dps? i doubt that. id like to see his total dmg instead of dps...

cuz i talked to Rurho, and he said he hardly belive in that, well i dont have either my relic nuke, or my archaic... so ... i dunno, but 500dps for a mage, from the mob with 100% to 0%... i hardly belive that.

If Awardis is doing 500+ DPS with Archaic at it's current cast time, I'm honestly worried it would be imbalenced to decrease the time on it. I think that what magicians really need to start doing is getting magic and fire focus items and damage increment items if they are worried about their DPS being low. Adding a cold nuke (even though I was originally for the idea) is just plain silly. I think that by doing so it would make us too much of a magician-wizard hybred. Dropping the cast time on the Relic nuke and giving monster summoning a use has already been 2 good steps in the right direction for magicians. Those changes and aquiring a 4% magic focus item has increased my damage about 100 DPS (30 DPS from the monster pet and 70 DPS from the decreased nuke time and magic focus - read: from 250ish to 350ish DPS!). Anyone that says otherwise either has not played extensively since the additions, or has neglected to make use of them and/or parse themselves for more than a random fight.

Bladewind's is lowered, and archaic is slightly higher dmg, then both come closer together than they were before, thus the aforementioned 500ish, would be almost 500ish with bladewind. Yea, I dunno to be honest. I suck at numbers. If it wouldn't be an enormous increase in DPS, perhaps it wouldn't hurt to drop the cast time a bit on arcahic too. I don't know Wiz's reasoning for dropping the one and not the other. :shrug: I do know I'm doing 350(ish) DPS with a 4% magic focus item, and awardis is doing 525(ish) with an 8% fire focus item. So perhaps if someone with archaic and a 4% fire focus could parse and comment we'd know for sure. =P

It really depends on what one is doing too, on 2 eternal statues standing right next to each other brandar had me at 550ish while parsing live. That was without magic focus. But obviously would only apply with multiple mobs.

Well, here comes a few parsers about me soloin in EW orcs, with my Relic pet.

Info: Pet had 2 sword of runes, and bauble of battle.
Buffs was only mages ones: Like Ancient Burnout , Velocity , and taunting buff , and of course, the relic pet DS shield. (you will find the buffs that he had on the logs anyways ).

PS: i was healing it with Healing Increment V , and it was at night.

I was really shocked when i went to solo those orcs in EW, cuz before the "Fix" on all pets, he could solo it with like 1-3 heals, and still be like at 30%-50% hp, but this time, he got spanked... used like 4-5 heals on it, and against those orc oath (caster type) he usually dies if u dont use either the MendWounds AA healing pet, or nuke the orc... he cant kill it with just healing the pet (not even chain casting it).

What i am trying to show here, is that the mages take the bigest hit on this, because we cant snare/fear , and our root is not too good either. And a mage not having a good tankin pet, makes him one of the hardest pet class to solo, because necros can either kite the mobs with snare and let the pet do its dps, or just fear it, and put a bunch of dots, and let pet hitting too... But mages all we can do, is keep our pet up, and nuke the mob down, before our pet dies, and we have to be carefull with the overnukin, cuz in closed areas, we get agro we tend to die if root gets resisted or pet dont get agro back fast.

I would really love to see some review on the pets, all the pets, not only mages... before the "fix", they were good tanks. but now, they are just a dps toy (if that).

Some people when pick a Necro or Mage or other pet class to play, is because they dont have the time to groups, or they wanna log in and play solo, and without a good pet... it gets very hard.

It is generally more mana/time/exp efficient to nuke the mobs than to sit back and play pet healer while he does all the work.

This is a good example of why the recast time on the pet heals was greatly increased. Many mages were playing "pet cleric" instead of being the offensive class they were intended to be.

BTW, get some buffs for your pet. They make a huge difference.

As for dps with bladewind alone, I'll snag a parse prolly thursday and take a looksee just chaining it. Usually I'm alternating it with rains etc so it makes it difficult to get a clear steady parse with just it from past fights.

Fin parsed last night, so if I can get ahold of him bladewind dps should be consistant for most of the fights. There were a few things I used rains on. But not many last night, and it tends to be obvious.

Hrm...as a 65 mage (and crappy one at that) who isn't raiding the high end game, I'd rather see another line of spells come into play for us.

A slight increase in pet hp and dps would be nice, but I disagree that mages should be able to sick a pet on something and not expect to throw down some spells. Imo, our pets were never intended to be that powerful and should not be. When solo'g it seems reasonable to me to throw down 2 rains and heal the pet once or twice.

I feel the max damage I can do with any single spell is actually pretty low for my level, and even including the pet dps, I'd guess that we (mages) are actually some of the lowest dps *especially* in raid encounters. If we want to do more damage, we take a significant risk of getting aggro (read: dying), because in order to do decent dps, we'd have to chain cast our "best" spells which still only crit out at 3-4k (remember, I'm a crappy mage).

I would love to see another line of spells introduced in the 60-65 range and a slight increase in pet hp and dps.

Has anyone parsed our dps compared to other pet classes? I think that would be most useful here.

An apples to apples comparison would be good. So compare to Necro and Beast, right? They are the other pet classes VS Druid and Shaman who are less about the pet and DPS.

what i am trying to say is not that we should let our pet tank, and we play priests... what i am sayin is that necros can snare/dot/fear and whatever, get the agro from the mob, and just kitte it pretty easly, since they can snare the mob... MAGES CANT!!!! if we get agro on a closed place we die. Necros can FD if they pull the agro... or whatever...

What gets me pissed is that a necro can solo easly a 13kxp mob, while us mages cant. i could barely solo those 8kxp orcs in EW. as barely i mean, i used too much mana, and its not worth it.

Cuz i have the relic pet, wich should be a kickass pet, but its not, the only big difference he has is: That he has like 2x more HP then the other, and he procs Slow/DD of 190dmg. But he dont tank anybetter, he dont take anyless hits then the old one...

Imo ALL the pets should be looked at, not only the mages one. I am not saying : HEY lets nerf Necros... what i am trying to say here is that mages rely on pet a lot, he is OUR tank, and if he CANT tank for us while we nuke (carefully to not agro), well we screwd.

If awardis says : Hey we rox, cmom mages make a hugeass dps... well thats 1 of a kind... and i bet 90% of the mages that are high lvl dont solo anymore... well, id say : Go try it. u will see that the mana waste/time is not worth it, groups are like 2x faster for xp, and a lot less dangerous.

Sorry for the biatching, but i am just tired of this. You make a huge post trying to show how pets are weak, and all ppl say is : Omg they should never be strong, i am not saying HEY MY PET NEED TO TANK LIKE A WARRIOR! , but id like him to tank atleast as good as a ranger maybe...

Mages never get snare, and in my opinion we shouldn't, so complaining about how a necro pet can do xx dmg and how necros can kite just doesn't seem relevant to me. Yeah, I can tell the pets were 'downsized' some - I've been playing that long - but I have learned to adjust. Call me a dumbass or whatever, but I believe mages were never intended to play our pets as other classes do because of the other abilities we get (unfortunately being a pez dispenser is one of them). By the way, I solo a lot just fine with my non-relic pet. Hell if I know if/when I'll even see a relic pet, so I've learned to make due with what I have. Yes, I would like to see the pets a bit stronger and dps a bit higher, but I think the class would be more useful in groups/raid situations with another spell line.

Oh believe me, it's been said. Many times. About many different class abilities in comparison. While snare is problematic in not having one, we do have a root. However I'd point out that it is very short duration. While leveling up imeriaz and desif I was absolutely astounded at how long other roots last. In fact the best soloing strategy as a mage I've found relies mostly upon being a gimpy wizard, and rooting the mob, blasting the hell out of it, rinse and repeat. Puma's in plaguelands, a good bit of things in darkwoods, goblins in rsp, and really well anything is a bit more efficient than sic'ing the pet from a soloing standpoint, unless you've got 2-4 at a time.

These also fall under the why bother with the pet except as an emergency countermeasure routine. You'll spend far more time healing him than he's worth.

As for the amount of damage he takes it would be interesting to see if his mitigation/avoidance is higher than the 63 pet lines. He of course tanks better, but mainly I believe as a function of his hps.

Certainly everyone with a pet was affected in at least a minor way by the pet changes (with the exception possibly of sk's and clerics, who have pretty much the most worthless pets of all in the first place). Mages and beastlords are simply the most affected by the change, as they rely on their pets the most. As for why there has been more problems with mages than beasts? Simple. There have been more overall nerfs to mages. Also I would venture a guess that there were more mages in the first place. Beastlords simply do not seem to be a highly populated class at the high end at least. If we consider the people who post on a class as a smaller proportion of those that actually play a class it makes sense there would be more outcry about mages than beasts if the population of mages is indeed higher.

No I understood exactly what you were trying to show with that. Unparsed neatly though it makes for difficulty in interpreting what you were trying to show, which probably resulted in much misunderstanding. I attempted to do that once or twice too, but pretty much said the hell with this, as real life is kind of busy for me most of the time. Though the end comments were of course uncalled for. But then I would just take it as you were upset and didnt truly mean it anyways.

Psh check the class list, I'm active ;P. But for the most part you are correct. Most of the high level "uber" mages on the server do not play anymore, changed classes, etc. I don't know what you're talking about in regards to the last part of that though. With 18 man there is generally always a full raid, since it simply takes 9 people with decent comps and skill to fill one up.

No generally it's not worth it to solo anymore. In that you are pretty correct.Sadly, as it was considered a major bonus of the class itself at least when I started mine.

The point I think our colleague was trying to get at was simply in terms of class balance where do mages stand. There are numerous abilities of every class. Say we were to assign point values to each. Based on their value/usage. Ideally, all the classes would come out the same (not in terms of abilites, but in terms of point totals), essentially being perfectly balanced. That of course is pretty much impossible to do. Rating each ability of every given class would take forever, and would change as new content is released. There are simply too many factors to keep classes perfectly balanced, other classes abilities, content, etc. Thing is, our pets are made to tank to some extent. We have 0 way of reducing aggro without one (no concussion, no jolt, no fd, no evade), we also have an actual petheal, rather than necros whose pets are clearly not intended to tank nearly as much because of the other features of the class. We also have a spell expressly dedicated to helping pets keep aggro, and a buffline that increases the pet's ac among other things, as well as a spell that gives him a fairly high death save.To me, those practically scream tank.

Well since its been asked for I suppose ill add my 2 cents worth. Now before I go any further id like to point out im not an uber 65 mage for 150AAs and what not. Im just your average run of the mill lvl 65 mage with no lvl 65 spells since farming was never my fortay. I have the full line of lvl 63 pets, am un-guilded, soloed most of my way to 60 grouped for a few months to get to 65 pre pet nerf. I've only been to a few raid zones including cryosanth tower (the tower in everfrost) 1 time the dragon area in EW a dozen or so the giant place a few times and dragon necropolis once. Sorry for the lack of zone names I worked all night and am tired =P. Affording the nice spells and good gear is nearly impossible for me as I make my pp ONLY killing hill giants in OSM and Everfrost. I have never really goone to mielB or any of the other zones that drop nice gear to sell and the only place ive ever done that was in Kaladim A.

Anywho The only reason I even log into my mage nowadays is to twink my cleric my killing giants for PP. Yes the cleric is nice and alot more fun and useful for playing as far as grouping goes. Players will ask for me to summon dots for them when im on or some monk will ask for the magi bags or whatever but thats really the only thing hes been good at for quite sometime. Ive stood around saying lfg for hours on end and never gotten a tell so I eventually just quit bothering with it. Now do I think mages need better pets or AAs for the end game? More than likely they need something. The only times ive been invited on raids in the past few months has been to CoH. Kinda sad but true. I don't blame the guild I was raiding with of course its just what I was good for. A little more dps didnt even bother to try to heal the pet through AoE spells just let him die and cast another one. Couldn't even land a nuke though I don't have the really good nukes that most of the lvl 65 mages that have posted on here do. I use Shock of Sun so it gets resisted just about everytime I cast it on a raid mob hehe.

The main reason I am posting on this is to show that mages that dont have access to high end guilds or hours upon hours of farming have no real hope of even possiblly getting as far as you guys have. So tbh while I understand why your complaining you should be thankful for what you do have. Granted the mage class is just a pez dispenser with the ability to farm PP or maybe CoH a guild across an area they aren't well liked (though it would take an hour hehe) its the class you and I have chosen to play. Yes most of us have moved on to a more "useful" class in terms of raiding but logging in the mage to farm stuff either for crafting or just gathering good ole PP is its best use for the time being. I can live with that while I play my cleric hehe. But in the hope that one day the Mage class will once again be nice I will always keep him around and within arms reach. and don't forget you can still solo LBs for some experience with moderate ease while you wait to get a group.

I have very little experience with mages but wanted to throw a few ideas out to make the mages more viable. It seems like mages lost their niche, it used to be dps/backup tanks and a lil bit of extra mana via mod rods in a pinch. Unfortunatly people got upset because they could farm plat mobs so efficiently.

Now my ideas are a little strange but i think its doable....maybe. First their rain spells, arguably the best spell available to a mage, but they can be a death stroke on multi-mob situations. What if the rain spell only affected mobs that wern't mezzed, simmalar to pets. Now this is still a situational spell and only mana-efficient if more then 1 mob is being tanked but helps the mages versatility.

Another idea i had was to make mage pets, possibly beastlords too, have different stances to go from dps to tankish when the situation called for it, maybe via changing the mages stance. I know this will make very little difference but better then nothing

Now these are just vaugue ideas that come from some one who has very little experience on mages but maybe these are viable options.
