MacroQuest bannings

Ok, this has gotten completely out of hand. Mainly my fault, so lets bring this down to the bottom line.

If your using something that you shouldn't, you probably know you shouldn't be. If your using something that you might not consider cheating and are banned or jailed for it. The GM's here are going to be more then willing to let you talk your case out with them, and come to an agreement about using/not using that program/joystick/whatever else.

Sorry about all the trouble.

I dont think its out of hand. And I understand that using a macro program or w/e they are is a bannable offense. Just would hate to get into trouble because im using hardware that I have purchased for gaming :)

You realize that the autofire (or turbo) button on your joystick is no different than having a macro program that repeatedly presses a button for you.
I can download some random windows program that maps a repeatedly pressed button to some unused key on my keyboard. You can press your joystick.

If one isn't allowed, i can't imagine the other is too.

Just seems kinda crazy to say a gaming controller is cheating. My brother has a gaming keyboard with a turbo key, he can bind it to any key he wants, If that is against the rules then Im at a loss for words.

I agree. I think that so long as you are at your keyboard- any hardware or software should be permittable, providing it does not reverse-engineer the game, and/or play the game for you while you are, or can, AFK.

Does a ranger using turbo fire over mashing their keyboard or mouse really affect anyone in this thread? I think not. More DPS? *laugh* Less sore fingers, and less wear & tear of the hardware.

Again, I much prefer the "do not allow an application to play the game for you while you afk".

It makes the client do something it's not intended to, simple as that.

If you start being amazed that a joystick is cheating, you should also be amazed that just using your feign death skill could be against the rules (using feign death to train) I mean you're just using feign death how can that be against the rules?

So if there can't be an auto range attack...

...why did bards get melodies?

Seems to be a similar idea to me. Saving some keys from all the mashing?

Right. It was not meant to be spammed; hence newer versions of the client have ranged-autoattack.

I am full aware that we are here on SoD, and not using a newer version of the client (I do not want to rub any developer here the wrong way). I just know that not everyone can button-mash, and if they use hardware &/or software to assist them with playing, while not AFK or able to AFK, and not reverse-engineering the game, in my humble opinion, it is not cheating anyone out of anything in anyway.

Could you imagine a ban on 5.1 speaker systems because some players only have stereo?

I feel now this thread has been taken to far. I think its been established that any software used to manipulate Game or the keyboard is against the rules, and personally I will never use any such program. But for the sake of my wrist, and the longevity of my keyboard I fail to see a game controller being a big deal. I am always at my computer when playing, and would see no reason to have a program play for me. What would be the point of playing then? In no way am I trying to offended any of the developers here, but to ban a piece of hardware is silly. I say let us hardcore gamers with all of our gadgets be left in peace and continue our addiction I call gaming, and give our wrists a break :)

Melodies were possible to do. Ranged auto-fire is not.
edit for clarity

Software is bad but hardware is good. :psyduck:

I can't help but feel some empathy for Rangers... they always have to pay for their dps, they have to tradeskill just to attack (the way they are meant to if nothing else), and to top it off they have to tap keys repeatedly and consistently. :/

I don't even actively play a ranger, but I have always thought the idea of a auto attack would be best, not even just for the fact that it is less hassle, but it's less strain on your wrist!

Carpal tunnel, median nerve disorder, or whatever you refer to it as is a serious problem!

The other night in mielech I was getting some xp. After 1 hour of the ashen strike my wrist was killing me. As it is my wrist had a cyst removed a few years back, so I am a bit more concerned with that :p

Considering how powerful bows are I'd say Wiz is right in that bows are balanced for being slightly annoying to use. Hell, with the DPS bows spit out they're balanced to cause cancer. :p

yep, bows are like a backstab every shot, it makes me jealous

I could consider condining autofire, but it would necessarily go along with A) A nerf for bows and B) An official download for an autofire program.

Well the last thing I want to see is more nerfs, and Im not looking to use a program to do it. So to end all this ill deal with the pain, and just hope I get a better bow then ashen strike soon, its like a machine gun with emp :p

Bard melodies are available to every player without extra hardware/software, and thus bard songs are balanced to account for this. If the client (we use) supported auto range attack, everyone would have it, and bows would be balanced for it. Since not everyone has it, bows aren't balanced for it, and that's what makes it different.

Bards before melody's made them played by the strong wristed people making them for the elite only :p Rangers are the same except with less wrist abuse. Enjoy it, it's part of the class and it makes that class unique.
