Yeah, I'm aware of those commands. What I was meaning is that people who want to sell items will necessarily have to publicize now. Maybe that's the intent, and that's fine. Personally as a buyer-only, I would rather not have to watch the /auc line and instead I can just run around new port /listsold'ing with people highlighted.
Scenario (before change):
Jimbob has a Mossy Tunic for sale for 20p among many other items. He is standing in Newport and is afk. I am online and REALLY want a Mossy Tunic, but I have the /auc line turned off because it's spammy... even if I did not, Jimbob is afk and like a good citizen is not using any automation to repeatedly advertise. I run through Newport and see him standing in an area with other players that are probably idling there for the purpose of selling stuff, so I run up to him, target him, /cm listsold and oila, I see what I want and buy it.
Scenario (how things are now):
Same exact situation, I'm running through Newport, I see him, target him, /cm listsold, and I get nothing. I remember that Wiz put in this change, run to the bank... I have no reason to suspect Jimbob has the item I want, so I don't automatically target the banker and /cm listsold jimbob, instead I do /cm listview and start browsing each and every person on that list. There is no telling how long it'll be before I happen upon Jimbob's Mossy Tunic, if I ever do...
You see, I'm sure, how in the second situation, the use of /auc is necessary because otherwise I would have no way of knowing he had the item. Personally right after the change (player vendors removed) I enjoyed seeing a bunch of people standing around the bank in NNP (or maybe it was SNP) and I'd run up, target, /cm listsold, move to the next... While there's not a 2-way interaction there, at least I'm interacting with other players in some way. Now, I run straight to the bank, /cm listview, then /cm listsold each player...
I'm not disparaging or claiming that the system is horrible, I was merely musing on the point that now /auc should get much busier than it was and people casually grabbing some items, sticking them up for sale and then laundering around NP is no longer going to happen. In order to bring the buyer and the supply together now a seller must spam /auc or hope somebody takes the time to /cm listview and then /cm listsold each and every single person.. Again, I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing; for me, I prefer vendors personally, but Wiz has his goals for how things should work, and I was just pointing out that it seems like this is a move to increase the use of the /auc line perhaps and to encourage promoting your goods.
