Is my name ok?

tentimes

Dalayan Beginner
Hi,

I've read the rules and naming policy, plus the plaza update.

My usual character name in MMO's (which hasn't been a problem) is Tentimes Nightly.

Would Tentimes Knightly be acceptable, or even just Tentimes?

Please, no abuse in the replies, I'm just making suer I don't transgress the rules before I start :)

-- Wordplay
You can't have two words in your first name that combine to make a phrase. You can't be "Lookhere" or "Jumpnow" or "Walkby". Nor can you do so in another language.

I would say tentimes would consist of word play would you not?

*edit* Tryingt to get the quote to be correct

Well, you could take that to extremes, dumbledorf (or whatever the correct spelling), Daddy Proudfoot, Bil-bo (in elvish), Grimwatch, etc

I could go on. I'm not trying to be a pedantic pain in the ass, but just want to try and see if tentimes will fly before making a character. I don't see it as a play on words myself.

If it won't fly then I will try and see if I can come up with something else.

All of your 'extreme' examples would probably be nerfed as well for various reasons. If your name is a 2 word combo (ten times), then don't do it. Don't make something simple into something needlessly complicated.

Any word or compound word is against the rules so you can't be uproar or downfall or hamfist either :(

What about Uproar? That could be considered two words?

Basically here is what you do. You say, self can I find this word in a dictionary? If the answer is yes you can not pick that name, doubly so if you are thinking of a name that is just two words you can find in a dictionary. Basically the name policy is good and it keeps people from naming themselves Animebabe

In summation:
Real word(s) for first name = bad
Real word(s) for last name = okay if not offensive
Using first name in conjunction with last to make a phrase or something ie: Panca Kedinner=not okay and I will kill you

Sorry, I'm just going through my normal names, which are not that outrageous really, I thought.

What about Kerbert? Kerb can be found in a dictionary, ert isn't. The word combined does sound a bit like Herbert, which I wasn't trying to do, I just made it up.

If that will do then I will pick that one.

I'm NOT trying to troll and sorry I'm not trying to be a dick about it, but it's pro9ving hard to choose one that doesn't get caught by it.

Here are some more I have come up with in case Kerbert falls foul of something:

Kevin
Wiffle
Bob
Decafinede

If I can pick the any of the above hopefully I can get on with it and get past the naming rules.

Thanks.

I was almost willing to believe you weren't trolling until that one.

What? I just made that up. Seriously, I just rymed off things that randomly came into my head in an effort not to link things together.

I have never heard of Decafenede? What possibly implication or... I mean.. what? What on earth is wrong with it? It's a totally random word - I just made it up?I was thinking of going with Kerbert anyhow, that other made up word was just one of a series of backups.

If you are looking for a staff member to say 'yes those are fine' it's basically not going to happen. No GM in his or her right mind is every going pre-approve a name for you. If you have to question it, it probably isn't an ok name, period. You need to create a name not a handle. An actual name.

A first name might be fine until you add a last name to it. If you can't figure out how to pick a name that isn't a word, then you have bigger problems than naming your toon >_<. For instance, Kevin is ok, Kevin Bacon would be underscored. Kevin, Wiffle and Bob are not available anyway (and I would probably name nerf Wiffle tbh) because there are level 1-5 characters with those names.

You should read the Naming Policy Clarification thread if you haven't already.

I really wish the name kevin was available

I will try Kevin first. Then I will try Kerbert. I will leave the last made up one to... oh hold a minute...

is it because it is close to de-caffinated? I just saw that! lol :) Sorry, I honestly did not make the connection in my head. I can sort of see what you mean now.

Ok going for Kerbert, Kevin, Bob, or Wiffle.

Yes I'm not that dim, I'm not going to call him Kevin O'Doherty or anything like that.
