I has querys for the answerings.

I am 19 now on both the Druid and the Necro and have been liking it so far. Haven't had any trouble with anything yet. I had already read about charisma effecting resist rate and got a healthy chunk of it at creation. I haven't had any resist problems yet. 90% of the time I tank with the necro and in completely garbage gear he can tank reds fairly easily with just druid heals. I don't even need to use taps. I realize I am only 19 so far, but this is just a progress update so to speak.

About the summoning later on, are you talking about regular exp mobs summoning or named? The reason I picked two casters is because I mainly played all melee classes on live. I can always do another box I suppose if things get to bad. Next one will probably be a Shaman + something. Maybe Ranger or Monk or ???. Dunno.

Speaking as an int caster, while you did pick the best option among them, you'd still be better off going with some type of melee character along with the druid, this is of course if you're planning on playing them at all at 65, and especially if you plan to venture into the endgame at all eventually.

As for summoning. Both. Many many many xp mobs summon.

I think I have convinced my cousin to play. He wants to play a Beast I think. Does this qualify as a "melee" -> tank? I have never played one so I don't know if they are caster/priest squishy types or not. I might be able to get him to play War as well, but I don't know for sure. Should I just force him to play War or is Beast sufficient?

Tys for the reply's. =)

EDIT: He said he will play anything that doesn't wear a robe. His words not mine. =P

Shaman monk is the most popular box, it rocks.

As for your bro, BST works well in xp groups. They don't tank all that well but they aren't too bad at it either.

Beastlords are primarily melee/utility.

They are not the best tanks in the world, but their pets are fair off tanks for adds. They do add a lot to EXP groups, especially if there are no Shamans in it. If there is a druid in the group, you really have most of the buffs covered to some degree. With a tank, expect the beastlord to send his capable pet in to fight; for the beastlord to slow and then join in the fun. If things get bad he can throw in some dots and he has a decent patch heal. His pet heal is pretty incredible and takes little manna, allowing him to heal his own pet in all but the heaviest damage.

Buff-wise, he has a HP buff that stacks with all buff but the Paladin HP buff. The Paladin buff has a few more HP, but he BST buff adds attack. Very desirable
The Beastlord has a manna/regen line of spells that stack with all other spells except some infrerior item clickies. Very desirable
The Beastlord has a spell that reduces aggro but adds 20% damage to nukes and dots. Casters love it. Very desirable for caster dps.
Then if there are no Shamans the Beastlord has inferior stat buffs as well as another HP buff that is only inferior to the Shaman buff. He also has a haste that is not as good as either enchanters or shamans, but is real nice if neither are in your group. The beastlord ends up with the second best slow in the game, second only to shaman.

DPS wise he is behind Rogues, Rangers and Monks. But add in his pet and he is a nice DPS addition.

All that to say, if you have a Druid like I read, a beastlord makes a nice addition. But he really shines the best if there is a tank in the group.

Also while there is one robe that is nice for a beastlord (Shroud of Vapor) most of the time he wears leather. Many loot items he can use are only for monks and beastlords (so some are cloth).

Most raids will benefit from one beastlord, for his buffs. They can add significantly to DPS and the manna regen always helps.

heh If you can't tell, I love the class.

He ended up making a warrior, but I convinced him to switch to beast. Tys for all the info. He will probably be the tank of the bunch, him or the pets. In all my time on live I probably have seen a beast tank, but it was so long ago I don't remember it if I did. Hopefully he can manage later on. I knew about his utility (slow, beast crack, shammy buffs), but I didn't know about the aggro reducer/damage buff for casters. That does sound handy. I also didn't know rangers were so high dps here. Beast, wiz, necro, magi, hell even some knights beat ranger dps when I quit. Nice to see they got put in the high dps tier where they should be. Going to have to try one eventually.

Edit: Are the pets weaker in this emu? Maybe its just my fuzzy memory, but I seem to remember them being tougher and hitting harder.

Since money is probably tight, the best advice to new players is to get mithril two hand weapons for the war and beast. These will run between 50 to 80 plat. You can use these with confidence into later levels. though if you friend decides to keep his war he will want to look at Fuwok's excellent guide on aggro procing Warrior Weapons.

There are also class quests you might want to look into such as Spirit Stone. Chances are the bsts you are thinking of had companion health and strength items. There are also items with effects which buff the bsts ability to heal the pet.

There are also Adepts which drop nice gear for you as you level and Treasure Maps.

Looking at these hopefully you will get some ideas of how to make these characters more powerful.

I have no idea if he plans to ever go back to the warrior. Hearing so much about how no one wants them for guilds and how people only want pallies for groups.. I decided to nip his eventual rage quit in the bud. For now he is all beast and he's liking it so far. He still hasn't caught up to 19 though. I don't have the plat yet, but I told him about the mithril and we'll grab it when we can. I have actually killed an adept already. It was a bug near surefall. Haven't done anything with the treasure maps yet. Will look into them. Tys for the info.

Yes. Much much weaker.

Alright, at least i'm not going crazy. *sad face*

That is probably a good call. They are horribly expensive to equip. Which is fine until you hit 65 and find that well geared and AA'd casters tank as well.

He can always level up a tank after he hits 65. His BST can farm to finance tank gear.

I call shenanigans. Only the best geared and aa'd casters there pretty much are tank even remotely adequately, as our gear pretty much stays terrible for anything other than mana, and charisma throughout every tier. You can expect even healers on average to have somewhere in the neighborhood of 100-200ac on casters even at the extreme high end. Beastlords always tank better than equivalently geared casters, for a number of reasons.

Ghaellie is one such culprit I speak of. No knight can hope to keep aggro in her full fury and though she has low AC, she has much more HP than a paper tank. I have not really parsed it or anything, but she has a way of making my paladin feel useless. That is all I am saying.

Doesnt look like anyone answered your bard questions unless i missed it. Looks like you sorted out what you wanted to play though, if you got a question bard related you can toss me a tell in game.
