I don't think I'm alone in this one... I've been trying for months to figure out how, exactly, I can draw up a sort-of portrait of my three main characters. I just can't get it composed. It's insanely frustrating when you're trying to sketch something that you can see clear as day in your head, the shapes, the mass, the values... and yet when you put pencil to paper, it just does not come out right.

Anyone else ever had this problem?

Ya, it's called no talent. I have the same problem.

Same thing goes with writing, singing, playing an instrument, playing a sport, juggling, playing video games, etc

Tryfaen's probably right though -- it most likely is a lack of talent. :/

Practice -> Experience -> Talent.

The hard part is finding useful practice though, because drawing the same thing poorly 100 times doesn't help you draw it well =(. If I knew of any drawing tutorials I'd link them.

Actually I'm still in contact with Tsa outside of game, he used to lead Dobluthen before handing it over to me. He's sent me a bunch of tutorials for drawing and stuff but I need a usb pen tablet in order to improve any further really. Can only do so much with a mouse. I'd like to do the drawing myself, so I think I'll just wait till after Christmas to get it done.

It's still gonna drive me nuts though.

I learned on live models and it was really easy, but even though I own a wacom tablet, I'm still way better at drawing on paper and prefer that over staring at my screen

There is a certain amount of talent that goes into drawing, but a good heaping helping of it is simply practice practice practice.

I took a university drawing class a few quarters ago and the instructor was great. Some people who were upwards of 40 back in school and had no drawing talent at all really improved greatly.
It's really all about training your mind to draw what you see/think rather than exaggerating it in a symbolic representation

instead of waiting for a wacom practice drawing in pen or pencil, and scan the results, trace the lines you want to keep and color/fill
