duv said:and tried to equip a pixie lute in secondary with a dalium short sword in primary. but the game would only let me equip one or the other, even though other slot was emptey. is this a bug? or something about bards I don't know?

Allielyn said:This is correct. If you have an instrument in your secondary, you cannot equip anything in your primary. It's always been this way, and is intended.
duv said:I can understand if this is for balancing purposes, but if it's for realistic purposes.. makes about as much sense as using a bow while holding a sword in each hand...

It's game balance. That's all.
I mean, how "real" is it that a bard runs at 100mph while wearing full plate?

Actually I feel as if bard run speed is lacking slightly to be completely honest.kukov said:Rationalizing realism as an excuse in this game is silly.

Spiritplx said:It is indeed game balance, but not being able to see why you shouldn't be able to play an instrument with one hand and still use another weapon to attack is also a bit silly. Try doing that in real life and then you can see why it was made like this (way back on live).
I agree with this. Being at the runspeed cap is poop, and Speed of the Wind is not as unheard of a speed as it claims. (But this is really just whining since bards are borderline insane already)articbre said:Actually I feel as if bard run speed is lacking slightly to be completely honest.
I would like to elablorate on this a little bit to make my point clear, baised on responces I've recieved on this subject from other bards. I feel with selo's without a modifier is pretty nice, you get a nice increase in speed. Once you start moving up in the modifiers though the increase in run speed is barely noticable, if any at all. What I'm suggesting here, is a better scaling for run speed with percussion modifiers.iaeolan said:It's game balance. In most cases before high end gear and melee AAs, instrument dps far exceeds melee dps. Once you add a primary attack it becomes even more skewed and there is no point in having secondary weapons or 2 handed instruments for bards since the optimal choice would clearly be 1 weapon 1 instrument. Moving ahead into the high end game this imbalance would be even greater given the availability of better weapons and instruments and melee/song AAs.
You may want to look into the cloak of the wind quest in south badlands, the wind modifier on it will give you a nice boost to your DD dps.
and btw, bards were only able to dual weild weapons and instruments with the introduction of the thunderous drum of karana in the PoP era, and we can all see the direction Live was going at that time.
