First experiences with Alchemy (basic potions and trivials)

Hey all, here's a first list of potions and their respective trivial levels.

You need a medicine bag, which you will get from a NPC near you shaman guild (in Halas it's a guy outside the guild named Karlin McDouglas). The quest you'll get from him is pretty easy (depends on your level of course), but it seems that you can't do the quest until you're high enough to get the alchemy skill.
The quest NPC will direct you to the alchemy vendor of your home city after you completed the quest above. As a barbarian you have to kill a juvenile mammoth (green at 55) in Everfrost and give its skin to Karlin.

There are three books to buy at the alchemy vendor:
One for a few plat, that tells you about the medicine bag and some basic info about alchemy.
The next for ~100pp, which gives you info about the herbs you can use.
And a third one for ~850pp (didn't buy), which seems to contain info about recipes.
The basic recipes are easy to guess though, so you don't need to buy it.

There lots of different herbs to buy (and possibly a few higher ones, which are dropped by mobs) and fives types of solvents:
Regular solvents (~3gp),
acidic solvents (~4pp),
alkaloid solvent (~9pp),
compound solvent (~2pp),
compound acidic solvents (~6pp)

suspension (~4pp)

First, some basic info about potions:
You put a herb and a solvent into you bag and hit combine. Some potions require more than one solvent. It's possible that some potions also require more than one herb.

The herbs are relatively cheap, the solvents are not. A regular solvent costs about 2pp, an acidic solvents costs about 12pp. Didn't check the higher ones.

A (lesser) potion does NOT stack with a different (lesser) potion.
A (small) vial does NOT stack with a different (small) vial, but it does stack with a (lesser) potion
10 Dose potions/vials (type of potion/vial does not matter) become trivial around ~25 or so.

As usual, train to 21 at your favourite trainer first. Then follow this list:

(note: The AC values seem to be a bit low, maybe a bug?)

List moved to other post below.

This will bring you to level 70. To get here I spent about 1kpp (again...prices are now lower. Should be around 500pp now). I'm stuck at this point, since the next potions don't seem to follow the previous pattern (like 2 acidic solvents plus one herb to get resist potions).

I guess I have to buy the expensive book

;(

Though my shaman is only lvl 7 right now, it will be quite a bit of time before she begins Alchemy, I'm just curious...will the skill ups cap with every level like on EQ, or is there just a minimum lvl to begin the skill?

Sunflower, Jatamasi, Dragon Wart = Barbs in a bottle (Trivial < 110), Damage Shield (1 dmg (Lvl 1) to 17 dmg (Lvl 65))

There are also SoW potions, shrink potions and underwater breathing potions. I know how to make them, but didn't actually create one yet, so they're not included here.

For most potions there are two more upgrades (for example: there's also a 2 mana/tick potion and a 4 mana/tick potion).

I'm just wondering...why is alchemy a shaman thing? (Forgive me if thats a stupid question lol, never played live)

took me about 1k to get 105 skill last night.

all 3 of my books have like dissappeared since friday night so im stuck at 105 cause im to cheap to buy another 800p book.

Contact me all those who have lost alchemy books. They were mistakenly set as norent, which is not intended. Hopefully should be in by next patch.

I'm just guessing, (because shamans on live are the only ones that can do alchemy) but I think it's a role playing aspect, shamans being tribal healers would make them like "witchdoctors" or Indian Medicine men. And these were the ones to make potions....so my guess is that is why this class is chosen...however, I have played DAoC and hybrids (Rangers, Pallys, SK etc.) were the ones able to do alchemy, I'm not sure of Mystic's reasoning on changing the class; just to be different, maybe... *shrug*

Fennel, Elderberry = Kolomber's Vanishing Fluid (Trivial < 110), Invisibility

is a trivial at like 40

I always thought alchemy should be a cross class skill with Rogues, and Poisons/Potions both be covered by Alchemy.

(EQ 2 is doing that very thing and it's turning out great.)

They would of course both have their own vendors, very far apart from eachother of course. Rogue one being hidden most likely far in the hidden sewers of Freeport. I think it would be great to have a hidden rogue guild down there. Where the rogues are the only ones able to get in, (maybe locked door or what have you..) While having 3 major NPCs down there, poison component dealer, Guild leader that has a ton of rogue quests, and a Fence, to sell items for a higher value then normal.

(I know with current limitations you couldn't put in a locked door down there, but can try something like that if you wanted. Maybe even do the same in Erudin behind the locked doors there. ;)

The client restricts alchemy to shamans, so we can't give it to another class.
It's been tried with bards. They were supposed to get a backstab AA, but they don't get the button. As for poison making, I'm not even sure it's being considered.

Got my skill up to 145 but have no idea how to proceed from here. I'm sure that I have to get droppable items, but since I don't know what I need, where to get them, and how to use them in a recipe I foresee myself being stalled here for awhile. I'm not about to go randomly trying to combine things together like I did last time.

By the way, is Wolf Blood even dropping? I've killed wolves in about every zone I can think of and haven't seen any drop.

Good question, I have the same problem. But I only killed the low level ones, so I wasn't really sure.

Does anyone know the recipe and possibly the triv for Ointment used in tailoring? I cannot continue my tailoring until I get some ointment and it is no longer vendor sold ;( So...I will level a shaman to make it if I could find out the recipe and the triv :D
