First experiences with Alchemy (basic potions and trivials)

Regular resist pots - 2 acidic solvent 2 of herb, triv < 105
Greater resist pots - 2 alk solvents 3 of herb, guessing triv is 145
 
Have the 3 other solvents that were thought to be included with the vendors supposed to be dropping or combined? If so, how are we to find out where to get them and how to combine them?

Also, Wolf Blood seems to be have a pretty bad drop rate.
 
Has anyone done the "Hidden Temple of Yaralith" quest for the medicine bag? They ask you to kill crocodiles and bring the skin to them. I think I've killed about 40 crocs with no luck. I tried giving the hides, no result. The hint he gives is a lake in a sandy place. I assumed oasis lake. I tried the aligator hides with no result as well.

Is the quest broken or is my luck really that bad?

Update: Closer to 80 crocs now.
 
I solved my problem by doing the quest in halas... It was a bit far out of the way but at least I was able to do it.
