Ask the cancelled donators

I guess the only true way to find out what the motivation behind the cancelled donations is would be to ask them. My only concern would be that they would be jailed or banned for expressing their true reasons for cancelling their donations. I think that if it were stated that they could express the reasons without fear for losing their accounts, we can hear what's going on. I personally feel that public communications on SoD including ooc and forums are a very hostile environment and typically choose to never express my opinions for fear of jailing or banning.

I do completely agree with Xardon on this issue and believe that the recent changes to the server, mostly the loss of the Translocators has caused donators to pull their donations. I know several people who have quit playing all together over the changes. I know that most people feel like they have no control over the changes that our happening to SoD. Suggestions mostly go ignored, /petitions and /bugs and even buglisted items simply disappear. Complain in OOC and get flamed and then jailed. I assume players felt that if they donated, maybe they would see more leverage to their feedback but when changes kept coming with no prior discussion or warning or solicitation of opinion, they gave up and cancelled their donations. Once again, this is my opinion, we won't know until we ask them.

I do appreciate all of the work that has gone into SoD and I fully expect it to come to an end some day. "All things are impermanent. Consequently, when we are caught up in the things of the world, we suffer from their impermanent nature." - Buddhism. I think that Wiz and all of the admins have done a fantastic job of creating a great place for people to meet and have fun. I appreciate their vision and understanding that EQ was great at a certain point until it was changed too much. History repeats itself again.

you guys are saying this crap about people canceling their donations are scum etc... or rather you think of them "lowly" what about everyone who hasnt donated a dime?

No, I'm just saying it doesn't make sense to rant about how awful the changes are, and "pull your support" so to speak, and then turn around and continue playing 12 hours/day 7 days/week.

The server costs money to maintain. People who play a LOT are part of what has to be maintained. I'm not saying anything about those who quit donating, move on, and don't look back. I'm looking at people who want to "make a statement" with their money while doing the exact opposite with their time. It's the monetary equivalent of verbal hypocrisy.

I haven't said anything one way or another about people who don't donate. I thought the subject at hand was recently cancelled donators. /shrug.

Let me also add that I see an odd assumption underlying some of the posts here that indicate that the GMs/admins don't care about how their changes affect gameplay, downtime, etc; that they don't care about "the community." In case you didn't know, these people play on this server too, and often! They are active members of the community, and the changes made affect their gameplay and downtime just as much as the next person.

The way this thread went makes me

Really not more I could add into that since the topic was the donation loss - not the reason for that.

My point is, and others have said something similar, is that if you pull your support financially because you don't like a change, yet continue to play as much as you did previously to the change, then the change really wasn't enough to get you to stop playing... so why would you stop supporting the game you play?

Way I see it is Im already paid up for awhile considering cost per user / concureent connection.. I dont see why its hypocrisy at all less your a donater from a year ago trying to chime in now. Its like prepaying for a year of service. You pay one time then never again.

Sometimes when we raid, some of us have to speak in all caps just to get peoples' attention. HEY PEOPLE!!! Donations fluctuate, regardless of changes. So stop trying to analyze everything into a complete derail and start asking yourself if you can afford to lose one fast food meal so some other guy doesn't have to screw his ENTIRE RENT FOR A MONTH.

kthx

This topic went to complete shit.

This is not the place to whine about changes, we have a forum for that.
