Farewell ...

Dalayan Beginner
My time in Dalaya after 18 months is finally and regrettably coming to a close. This game was so much fun in the early stages of my experience but recently has become tired and stagnant.

My issues with this game are in no particular order:

1. There are no options for the casual player in this game. There is not one guild that is casual anymore or will remain so for very long. The fact is, my donator dollars have only been benefiting the end game raider as that is the only content being brought to the game. I guess from the developing team’s point of view, that’s where the server base is … and that is 100% accurate … 280 people online, over 200 of those 60 plus.

2. Tradeskilling and the economy in general. Being that Tressee is my toon, I’ve developed a pretty decent opinion on the market and frankly, once again it favors the highend player. Minus Aillar, my main, there is absolutely no way in hell that Tressee would have the skill level that she does. Aillar was basicly the farm bitch for Tressee, it was the only way to afford tradeskilling or a lot of assistance from your guild, like Dobluthen did with me. I watched again and again as the few cash spots that I knew of were nerfed to dropping nothing of any value. Not exactly fun to try and do tradeskilling at that point and another chunk of fun removed for me.

3. This game is dieing. Anyone that doesn’t think that there is something wrong with less than 20% of your server base being under 60 is delusional. Basicly, as each person in the raiding game burns out, there isn’t going to be anyone to replace them. And there is no casual player base in this game anymore. That originally was the bread and butter of the server and what made it fun.

To all of those that I have been guilded with in Unconquered, Empire and Dobluthen, I’ll miss those that were my friends.

I can not 100% guarantee that I won’t come back at this point but I’m feeling that there are more lewts in the game called Life than in the stress filled environment that Shards has become.

Uh, actually, about 50% of players at any given time are sub 60, but goodbye nonetheless.

Sorry to see you go Aillar. The economy and tradeskills aren't any better at the higher end player I feel your pain.

I'd like to think Chaotic Winds has kept to a casual guild...

Good luck though Alliar, and take care.

CW was founded as a casual guild I believe and has always been casual because of the casual nature of it's members. CW is probably the most stable guild on the server to boot because of our casual nature. So if you require a casual guild, we're it.

I suppose I agree with you about content, but that's pretty much the case for every mmorpg out there. I just don't know what they could do content wise for the casual player. New zone for the casual soloer maybe? Or more quests for gear that isn't dependent on a group or raid? That's about all I can think of.

I do agree with you about the economy. It's going down hill and that's for everyone really until prices across the board are adjusted for the farming nerfs. That goes for player and npc prices. Ex: plat bar prices need to drop. Never again will a person level up their JC to max unless they really have no life and are willing to farm endlessly every day for a year, or have a really nice guild who forsakes MT charms and whatnot to help them out. That's just one small example of many as to why money nerfs are hurting the game. Things can be fixed and it'll take time. I'm fairly certain I know why the nerfs happened and I agree with the reasoning but I don't think the majority approve of working three times harder than before to reach their goals and it will show in time. It's showing right now by this thread being made.

As far as it favoring the high end player, I suppose you're right if you mean the people who are geared up the ass and farm things that go for thousands of plat. But if you just mean being lv65 and farming all the money a low lv can't, well again that's the case with a lot of mmorpgs out there. It seems the norm that the higher you go on skills, the higher level you need on your class to be able to farm what you need or buy what you need. I suppose that's because if it were easy to reach max, everyone would do it and sooner or later you just have a major mess of an economy on your hands. And even when it's hard, all you need is RMT involved and they can level skills to max in no time and it'll turn the economy to shit. I know this by seeing it with my own two eyes so I shudder at the thought of what it'd be like if the majority of a player base of whatever game were max tradeskills.

As for your final point, I totally disagree with you about the casual player base. It's a lot bigger than you realize. If the server goes down it will happen because of the economy and casual players like yourself, not because all the hardcore folks quit. Besides, it's a good thing the hardcore play less or quit when burned out. They tend to be... lamers. Frankly SoD is a damn better place when they aren't around being asses to everyone. kudos to those that don't get big heads, but they know as well as I their partners in hardcore raiding crime are less than nice.

So yeah. I said my peace on your points, and I bid you farewell if you're gone for good. And to just make one more point.. just for the record currently out of 227 online SoD right now, 73 are lv 60 and up, 63 of them are lv 65. Now, who knows how many of those under 60 that are currently on are just alts of lv 65s and how many are fresh players. But I thought I'd just point that out, and it is very much the norm that I've seen for ages now.

Just a little note here, when you do / all 1-60 you don't see anon people. The real statistic is ~50% under 60, and has been so for a long time.

Wiz, thank you for replying.

After conversations with Xardon and Romuzari ... I've found the casual environment that I was looking for.

I still think personally that the economy is a problem. I will continue to grumble at every nerfed cash spot but I like the game as a whole.

I will recind my statements regarding server population.

Thanks for giving my family a place to play.

P.S. - so yeah, I'm unretired.

I'm doing something about the cash drops in a day or two actually. :)
