Experience Decay

I think that this is a truely dreadful idea.

I have no knowledge of the rate of decay but currently I log on and solo in the one or two zones that are worth going to. If my xp is going to decay to zero then it is no longer worth logging on at all.

Is the idea really to discourage people from playing?

Obviously yes, this idea is to discourage people from playing. To that effect it's doing a terrible job but you can do your part by never posting or playing again.

Hahahaha.

Look anybody who has experience with you knows you made this post knowing damn well what the solution to your own problem is but I'll bite anyways: Get a group sometimes and alternate between more zones giving the modifiers of the zones you're not in time to replenish.

I parsed my log after killing in GD last night for a little over 3 hours. XP dropped off about 3% after 2.5hr and again at the 3 hour mark. I'm not 100% sure if my XP rate was 100% clear to start as may have killed a little there within the previous 24hrs and not sure how fast XP rate recharges.

So if my parse was good you earn 100% or more XP till the 3 hour mark, then it he start dripping below 100% rate. I only went about 3 hours and 15 minutes so I can't comment how fast it drops off from there.

Here is an image of the parse. Ignore the x axis, the drop offs happened at 2.5 hours and 3 hours. I was killing guardian worms which gave either of the XP values shown depending on level of spawn I assume.

exp will now be measured in =

i gained === after 30 minutes of exp, but this was reduced to == after another 20 minutes

I waited about a month before going back and then my exp was all =====

*strokes beard* ah, yes. Now I see.

People do not exp very much in citadel according to my research you high lvl guys are really slacking. Only 5 of the top 100 lowest exp mods are in Citadel at this point! Most are in zones like mielechb or heck even raid zones (I guess there was a lengthy valora raid recently) but the LOWEST is an enchanter who I guess sat in plaguelands for a whole day or something because holy cow it's way lower than anyone else.

But really... where is the 'I sit all day in Citadel' people that were so heavily advertised in this thread.

edited to add: no one more than 1 day away from full exp again so so far these numbers look pretty good

dont need exp no mo

I never quite understood this change anyway. Hasn't it always been the same? There is a "New Area Bonus" and it gets lower and lower the longer you hang around. Eventually it went in to negatives. So I thought it was always like that, not sure what is different now?

As for Citadel I would love to spend more time there because it's a great zone. But it can be hard getting a good group sometimes. I often advertise myself for an hour or so, and then give up and play my twinks. I've been to Citadel twice so far, and both were a waste of time really. The first time our tank quit just 10 minutes after I arrived... I then tried to find us a replacement tank and Tryling offered to come. He then showed up about 15 minutes later with a full Chaotic Winds group and proceeded to rape the zone without so much as an acknowledment of our existance.

The second time we ran around and killed stuff for about 20 minutes and then it was Ok guys I gtg! and it all fell to pieces. So it doesn't leave me too motivated but I'll try again sometime. Usually for us none-well-connected people, it's all about finding a decent tank.

it's not a great zone for pure /ooc pugs, best to have guildmates or friends you are familiar with.

The reason the numbers look that way is because since the new rule came out I have ceased to play anything like as much as I did before.

It was quite usual for me to solo say DN dragons for 7+ hours a day for weeks on end.

I am NOT claiming that this change is the SOLE reason for me not playing as much, The motivation to farm is diminished because I have my final charm and have almost exhausted tomes to fill with the xp.

However for me the charm of the game is that it is that it is viable to play it in so many different ways.
If you wanted to pug, you could pug. If you wanted to solo/duo a small number of areas you could do so. If you wanted to sit with a group day in day out in Citadel then fine. If you wanted to see all the content then that was good as well.

Suddenly, with no attempt at any justifications that I am aware of, the rules are being changed to say - No - we are going to change things so that it is no longer viable to play that way - You have to play it "MY WAY".

My take on this is that people play the game for fun. They will chose to play in a way that maximises the fun for them. This rule has obviously been introduced to alter people's behaviour. The possibilities are:-

(1) Their behaviour has not been altered and hence the rule is pointless - or

(2) The behaviour has been altered and they are now playing in zones that give them less fun than previously - or

(3) They are just not playing.

My take on this is that as long as people's way of playing is not directly affecting other people's enjoyment of the game they should be left to get on with it and rules should not be introduced that say we are going to force you to play it "THIS" way.

ps

I cannot see any reference to sitting in Cita all day in this thread prior to the above quote

I don't really understand the gripe about this. Is this replacing New/Old Area Bonus/Penalty? Or is it just another layer of exp decay?

If it's the former, I think it's a great change, because now we get a smaller bonus, but the bonus actually builds back up.

If it's the latter, I don't really see the point. Why not get rid of the New/Old system and just make the new exp decay system more powerful? That way you'd have the effect of getting people to move to different zones, but still having them come back eventually after their bonus replenishes.

AFAIK, the old system of new area bonuses and such only applied to Leveling and AAs. Once you're working on Tomes, the system didn't have any effect one way or another. From what I've seen, the new system applies to levels, AAs, and also tomes.

Though I agree, I'm not sure why they didn't just extend the old system to cover tomes as well. Unnecessary redundancies ftl.

Actually, I think the new system also doesn't apply to tomes. I've done several complete tomes in Citadel since the change and have seen absolutely no change in the visible exp per kill.
