easier transportation

the only problem i see with WR now and traveling is there is a lot of dead zones. places like oasis and the wastes of tarvl (sorry for spelling, old north and south ro) are completly dead due to freeport being an undead city with the threat of instant death looming around every corner with little merchant support. another zone thats pretty dead is frosthorn coast due to lack of boat traveling to it which would be a nice addition and will open up velious travel. i hate having to run from newport to centaur hills to bb, to everfrost, to faen woods, to stormkeep, to east wastes to frosthorn to tower for a torment raid when im late and there's no porter around, its an absurdly long run in my opinion that takes well over 20 minutes. please add in a boat system to frosthorn, i'd love to see the old icebreaker run again =D

zones like darkwoods or red sun mountains are great xp zones but no one travels to them because they are afraid to travel on foot. every time i run through darkwoods checking on my named spawns, the Adept dragon is always up (hear that newbies!! pharm him!). i wish there was some way the WR staff could use the old small wizard spires for traveling around to open up some of these areas, sorta like a train station depot which you have to pay to travel to. post a few translocators at the top of each spire that would just be used for a point to point jump to the closest small spire for a heafy price of a few plat each jump. just a few thoughts.

Putting a boat where it was in EQLive from NRo to velious doesn't make much sense here though. In EQLive Velious was to the south, but here it's to the north connected to everfrost and all that. So I don't know how that would be done.. Unless it goes a really roundabout route.

Bah, Freeport is hardly instant death. I ran around in there for maybe 30 minutes just exploring and being creeped out by some of the music and the worries that my illusion might be about to fade. I love what was done to Freeport, the retaking of it will be wonderful.

My mage trains through there all the time :) I once spent 10 minutes kitting skeles till the guards could pull them off me

As someone mentioned earlier, small merchant camps would definately be an incredible help to ease traveling and still have an immersive feeling.

I haven't been over to the Freeport area yet but I like the idea of having a no-mans-land in there. It makes it exciting and dangerous to travel through there with friendly towns far away. I don't know what WR put in and around that area but if there isn't a merchant camp around there that sucks . :p

Which direction a zone is doesn't matter in this game. He can activate any zone/s he wishes. He could have it that if you want to zone into Blackburrow & you zone into LOIO. Changing the zone layouts would make the game pretty fun.

im pretty glad that the developers + wiz have a firm stand on the no central hub of traveling... i think a few TLers are ok and should be in place... WR traveling is perfect ;p or close to it

Actually it matters a lot because the zone placement has to make sense according to the world map :p

Hmmmm There were aspects of PoK that I liked. Guild trainers for every discipline, trade containers and vendors, and some of the quests, but for the most part it was a bad thing to be able to insta-zap anywhere at will. I got into EQ right before Velious was released, so I am familiar with many of the hardships suffered by those who got in earlier and I can appreciate the sense of achievement that you feel fighting mobs more than 3 zones away from your home city with no lifelines to fall back on. I know what it's like to find a piece of gear on a mob that may only be 1AC point higher than what I am wearing now and treasuring that single point. None of this running to bazaar and buying someones low end PoP drops and filling all your slots for 1000PP or less then going out and shredding reds. I like that a blue has good odds of tearing my head off instead of dropping like a stone for easy xp. Playing on live these days just isn't as engaging as it used to be because everything is automated now.

Personally i think a central hub for gathering would be incredibly helpful. Could be like POK, only not a travel/warp/beam me up scotty kind of town. Just a large place where lots of people can gather and sell thier goods. Perhaps merchants that sell to anyone regardless of race/class. just think, with a city like that there would be less noobs crying "omgz0r wtf! where can i buy bags". Newport is cool but it lacks something, and i'm not sure what it is..... however anotehr large reason to have a big zone such as POK as a main hub, is so that there can be a great number of player merchants added to allow the large growth of player base to be able to get a merchant where many people travel to.... instead of all the open ones in hala/erudin where not nearly as many people travel. I have no idea where you could put a zone for such a place tho. Perhaps start making HoL easier to get to and more appealing to the player base as to give more people reason to travel there and shop/sell. Newport (and i use Newport because it seems to be the main meeting place in Dalaya) Just doesnt have the capacity to allow all these new players to option of getting a vendor of thier own. I for one absolutly refuse to spend 1k for a vendor in an outta the way area such as halas, or erudin where traveling just to shop is less than desireable.

This is just an idea to aid in the availability of merchants/player vendors to players who dont want to waste the money on outta the way places.

To not be totally off-topic. the idea of a .... forgot what the topic was exactly... sooo i'll just say the idea of a central port where you want hub like PoK was in live is a bad idea. However bringing PoK back as a player gathering area to socialize and sell thier wares wouldnt be a bad idea. It would be exactly like Newport is now only larger to allow more people to gather and shop around.

Is it because it's split into two zones? May remove the feeling of a 'hub' from the players point of view, just a thought.

Nothing is keeping people from starting to organize from a specific area. I imagine that we could even get a small fort built or something, complete with vendors if such a place was found/used. Something like the old ECommons tunnel.

Having POK without the stones and just a whack load of rented vendors and a bank would be cool..

Have it in the transloactor list same as newport is now ..

just adding to the above thought ..

Sorta make a hub/bazaarish area with out the downsides of zap portals and the bazaar crap ..

Personally I'm happy with Newport, but for what it's worth, were any hub to be implemented, it would need to be backed by some serious lore changes instead of just plonking the zone there :D

A zone doenst have to be just plonked somewhere. HoL is already there and has like 99% of its space unutilized. It would be a prime spot to set up as a hub of activity if it were easier to get to. Not saying its hard, just tedius for those unwilling to travel in the badlands. With the server reaching max player capacity the need for more space is greatly needed (as far as gathering/meeting places are concerned). You could fit an insane number of player vendors there. For the size of the zone its got the God's represenatives, a general merchant, the library, and guards. Also its a good departure point to get to many places.

Only thing that some people might gripe about (although it really isnt an issue unless you HAVE to bitch about something) is adding a TL from hol to newport so people can still catch the boats to Erudin. This could probably be implemented pretty easily and without interrupting/changing the lore of the world.

Also it wouldnt take away from newport as many people have to travel through it to get to the other continent, and most newbies start there so they will always know where that is.

All in all, Newport is a good place, but with our growth we need a larger place to use as a newtworking hub, and to allow players better options for player vendors other than low density areas such as hala/erudin

Plane of Knowledge would be a neat zone as a lore zone(what it SHOULD have been on Live), but the stones make travel far too easy.

Make pok the zone ya want and as suggested remove the stones ..

Would be a great "hub" for lore, vendors, merchants etc.

The only problem I can see the HoL being populated as a hub is that it is extremely laggy in the merchant area, even when no one is there but myself. I have a fairly decent card and machine and I still get hit by the momentary jerky motion moving through there.

PoK would be an excellent place for lore (as the library is there) and you don't necessarily need the stone to other zones active. Just have one stone to leave PoK from where you originally were (e.g., the porter in Northern Badlands to get to HoL.) PoK doesn't necessarily need to be the central linkup to all zones, just one.

personally, I would love to see a huge scripted event in the future targeted at city currently not "safe" or some other zone (PoK for example) that resulted in the city being retaken and resulting in a new gathering place.

Of course, that would be a pretty large undertaking and I think there are plenty of other things that warrant attention first.
