Dual Wielding? -offhand

Question for whoever knows for sure. Does DW on WR work like live? Basically weapon delay only affects primary and the secondary just chimes in on a skill check for DW. Just making sure it is the best formula to put your best dmg/dly combo primary and then the highest dmg off-hand you can find, ignoring the delay.

Thanks in advance :)

Hands were independant on EQ too. I have no IDEA where this silly rumor got started, but test it for yourself (if you still have an eqlive account).

Just put a non-weapon in your main hand and a weapon in your offhand and attack something. Believe me, the offhand will swing.

The hand may swing but did it actually get checked to make damage?

I know I duo'd with a ranger in Live and I spent a lot of time on the ranger site. It seemed that the whole low delay in primary belief was derived after parsing to see when it actually hit.

Not saying this 100% and since I don't have a Live account anymore I would not be able to validate this either way - just what I recall from past research.

Hands appear to be synced on live for the same reason they appear to be synced here -- all combat packets within a certain timespan are combined and sent out as one to reduce lag.

Hands are independent here, on live, and everywhere else.

I remember Shaolinmasta from Fennin Ro. What was that all monk guild called again? I was in it for awhile.

Let me be a little more concise in my description...this was the purveying wisdom throughout all of the monk boards for a time...though I'm not saying it was correct. The devs here know the code and we didn't lol.

1. Primary hand was the controlling factor. Weapon delay dictated how fast that hand would swing. Primary swings based soley on delay speed.

2. Secondary hand worked by two mechanics:
a) when primary hand would swing, there was a check to see if the secondary hand was ready to swing (this is affected by delay), but it was still not independant.
b) if the check passed and secondary was ready to swing, there is a Dual-Wielding skill check to see if it actually swings.

So, Melwin/Wiz I just want to make sure I understand. The secondary hand swings completely independant of what the primary does, but there is still a DW skill check that dictates if it will even try to hit. The only reason why the parses come out like they do is the reason that Wiz stated.

Thanks for clarifying :)

lol Liam, the monk only guild (only one EQ had I believe) was Coalition of Fists. I was an officer for them until the mid-20's and then moved on for a more balanced experience. It was a great guild in its original inception as the monk class was full of lore back then and people were trying to figure out how to play them best. You ended up with a big melting pot of stamina/agility/dex/str based monks and got to see how each performed. Of course the games dynamics made the best choice change as well.

I thought the reason for going with best delay/ratio weapon in the main hand was due to primary weapon damage bonus. Thus a faster weapon with a good ratio would do more dps than a slower weapon due to the dmg bonus being applied more often. In the offhand there was no weapon dmg bonus, thus the best ratio weapon was the best choice for anything except trying to skill up.

Of course as I remember, and people parsed eqlive into oblivion, it turns out that it was usually better to just stay with the best ratio weapons in both hands. This was in regards to Rangers as that's what I kept up with.

Wiz pretty much cleared this up, but your point about the damage bonus is right. On live there is a main hand damage bonus, and through AA you can get an offhand damage bonus too (Sinister Strikes, I think)

So in your mainhand, you put your faster weapon, and went with the best ratio offhand. However, your two hands are completely independent, just as they were on live. ITs easy to figure out for yourself with one real fast weapon and one real slow one of differant types ;) No parsing even needed.

There was a monk only guild on Brell Serilis, called Zan Fi Monks. The leader (Kambing was his name I believe) left the guild and it broke up, since expansions were coming out and a guild of only monks couldn't exactly do that much.

tenzu
aka ventper
aka marrowslyrp

TENZU! woot, how ya been doing bro? I actually ran into some archived EQ pics of your wedding at that bridge to Synoma lol...a full monk guild drunk and jumping off the top of the bridge, good memories all. You really should create an account on here bro. I play this because it's easier on my free time and not so addictive that I upset my wife. I played EQ2 for about a month when it came out and dropped it like a bad habit...WoW would just be too addictive for me and I wouldn't know when to stop.
