Class Help

So a quick update, our monk and bard friend did not make it and quit yesterday.

We've changed the group make-up again:

Me:
Sojouren: Bard
Kinorin: Cleric

Friend:
Kraulm: Warrior
Vuco: Druid

We loved having the bard in the group so much we decided to mix it up. There seem to be a lot of DPSers LFG in OOC so we figured we could just pick up one when needed.

Playing a bard on live years ago (during PoP era) was a lot of fun. I am really loving the changes made to them here, bellows is so sick, and that warrior snap aggro is just amazing so far.

it's essentially even at 24 and passes at 26. math is hard
Just to nitpick, this is only true at night. Most of the time, players are gaining a day-time bonus to heals which does not apply to hots. Even at level 35, a daytime Soothe is slightly less efficient than Greater Healing.

By any chance, did you get reasons why they quit? Any info/insight on it sure would be helpful.

There was a constant complaint about the buggy UI. They said they would lose keyboard or mouse function on a regular basis. They also did not like that the game locked their mouse in the window so we could not easily use Skype. They may come back after the 2.5 update, but I am not sure.

I can echo this you will more than likely be able to rip agro off anyone you want as bard if you really want it and have enough mana to bellow. Sometimes your bard will do it completely unintentional as well as the fact that SK agro is no longer instant instead its agro over time means SKs wont have the same snap agro a bard does.

As a SK its a bitch to have to fight with DPS classes with agro, seriously at times I can waste 1/4 of my mana just to maintain agro. Rather than having to fight for agro, it would be nice for those DPS classes to use their "jolt" I know its a pain in the ass but really its playing the class

They should have asked for help. Without 2-boxing, I have not heard of issues with losing keyboard or mouse. What version windows are they running, were they still trying to use eqpn (which i found worthless for win7 or newer). If they played windowed mode, they could swap to skype easily. But why use skype while playing? If to communicate, most use vent/teamspeak or the mumble server, it works far better.

Some dps classes have no jolt at all, and those that do don't get it until much later, usually like 50+. (Except wizzy, who get their first at level 39, and I guess monk FD from level 17.)

From what I've experienced, the issue has nothing directly to do with 2-boxing, the issues occur when you leave focus from your main eqwindow. I think this is a good example of what turns people off to SoD initially and only emphasizes more the importance of 2.5.

It depends what you want really. Vent/teamspeak/mumble won't cause less issues than skype. Personally I use both skype & vent concurrently and have seen no issues because of it (besides annoying OS automatic volume adjusts). It has nothing to do with the client buts from leaving/returning to the client.

This is right on. I believe this should be fixed with 2.5, but it has annoyed the shit out of me since I started playing here too.

Hi there! I'm a returning player, and I ALWAYS prefer groups to solo. How far along are you guys now? Depending on how far you are, I can try to catch up and would love to group with you guys. I am really interested in leveling a BST, but if I have a solid group, I'd love to Rogue too if you guys need DPS. Lemme know! :)

well, i suggested the other programs, as you shouldn't have to leave the window to use them at all, ever. What version of windows are they using, by the way?

They're probably alt tabbing to type in some group chat in skype which cant be helped. As someone who used irc constantly that bug sucks. When I installed windows 7 a few years back I found myself encountering an issue where windows seemed to shit itself from constant alt tabbing into the eqclient where it would drop all user input from the keyboard(not the keyboard bug within sod). If your control gives away mash alt control delete, hit escape again to exit the windows menu and it usually returns. Atleast that is the solution I used on windows 7. I don't know if anyone else has that issue or not but it reoccurred over 3 different windows 7 pcs for me.

(skype sucks)

I know my windows 8.1 machine seems to dislike the alt+tab window switch for SoD. It seems every other one bugs the alt key (I'll know because I'll have the alt spell names next to all mt spell gems), requiring a quick tab back and forth to free it up. will also do it if i swap to look at the wiki for a quest too. Was just wondering if they were encountering that same type of bug, or something different.

in eqw try switching the alt+tab to alt+`

or just ` (the key next to one has ~ on it but you dont need shift)
I typoed, thanks!

Edit - Making this change will give you a 95% fix to this problem since it helps it to not happen as often.

Edit - I should have added that eqw has built in controls to release/rebind the cursor from/to and eq window.
Alt+Control+R
This will let your buddies quickly and easily free and rebind the mouse pointer.

We've been using skype for a while now, it works for our group.

The game just did not agree with them and they felt they could have more fun elsewhere. SoD is clearly not for everyone and you kind of have to WANT to play it. A lot of people look past the bugs and poor gameplay in favor of a old school type game with a great community. Don't dis on them because they decided to play a new game that is more polished.

And the mouse and keyboard thing was happening to all of us. At least once a night I have to close down one of my clients (I 2-box) because I loose keyboard or mouse functionality.

The swap to skype is as simple as an alt-tab, but the layover function of Skype does not work with the way the current SoD client locks your mouse into your game screen. Its a minor thing, but frustrating if you are use to playing a different way.

I do NOT want this conversation to turn into the pros and cons of SoD, I am enjoying the game, as are a few of my friends so lets just leave it at that.

This.

We only use the voice chat function in skype, and is far superior to mumble/TS/vent if you are a subscriber. The voice quality and latency are leagues ahead of those other programs.

I will give this a try, thanks!
